We have an exciting opportunity for an Infrastructure Manager to join the Infrastructure team within the Unified Communications Division at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Unified Communications Infrastructure team has a broad role in enabling communication across the hospitals. This includes telephony, mobile and unified communications services as well as infrastructure supporting IT services for these highly regarded hospitals.

The Infrastructure Manager role is key in delivering and managing the primary Data Centre and over 100 cab room environments, all layer one infrastructure as well as telephony services across the Biomedical Campus. The candidate will have good project management and presentation skills to deliver the necessary programmes of work.

The role is based within Unified Communications and reports to the Head of Infrastructure.

Main duties of the job

To deliver and manage the tier 2/3 standard Data Centre and cab room infrastructure to meet high availability targets.

To be responsible for drafting standards, protocols, prioritising and managing an uplift programme to deliver all aspects of the warranted cab room environment for the above (including cooling, uninterrupted power, environmental monitoring and reporting) across the CUH estate.

To be responsible for cabling standards for voice and data services ensuring all performance and fire safety requirements are met.

To support the service desk engineers in managing VoIP, hybrid and mobile telephony services across the Trust.

To work alongside a number of other Trust departments, third party service providers and contractors to meet these requirements.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

    Educated to degree level in technical or engineering qualification or equivalent level of knowledge & experience.

    Cabling or Networking accreditation.

    H&S qualification.

    Willingness to undertake professional development.

Desirable criteria

    HTM 06-01/2 qualification.

    Accredited PRINCE2 Practitioner.

    ITIL practitioner.

    Technical qualifications related to role within healthcare or equivalent.

    Electrical Engineering City & Guilds Level 3 or similar electrical qualification.

    CompTIA network+ certification or equivalent.

Experience

Essential criteria

    Strong technical project management experience.

    Experience of working with large complex telephony cabling systems within critical environment.

Desirable criteria

    Experience of working with Fire containment standards.

    Experience of working with Asbestos regulations and all other H&S implications of warranted cab room.

    Experience of procurement processes within the NHS.

    Experience of contractor management, working with third party providers to deliver compliance to agreed standards.

    Working in the public sector.

    Experience of working with CAFM systems.

    Experience of working with BMS systems.

    Significant experience of working within a warranted data centre environment.

    Experience of working with and setting local H&S protocols.

    Experienced in completing risk and impact assessments and understanding of risk assessment methodology within critical infrastructure.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

    Strong working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements of working in cab rooms and server areas as well as wards and clinics.

    Good knowledge of data centre tier standards and achieving these within a challenging and critical environment.

    Strong understanding of change control methodology.

Desirable criteria

    Knowledge of VoIP solutions.

    Knowledge of fire containment protocols.

    Knowledge of CCTV systems.

    Knowledge of infrastructure installations requiring civils .

    Project management & process experience for capital projects and minor works eg Lifecycle/Backlog replacement; refurbishment programmes and infrastructure development works.

    Strong knowledge of data centre monitoring systems.

    Knowledge of international standards for delivery of services within warranted cab room environment e.g. BS7671, BS6701, BSEN 50173, EIA/TIA 598.

Skills

Essential criteria

    Highly developed organisational and planning ability.

    Ability to assess complex situations and prioritise in the face of conflicting needs of the service.

    Ability to work independently or as part of a team, self-motivated.

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Adaptable and resourceful, able to work under pressure.

Desirable criteria

    Ability to react safely and quickly in emergency situations with regard to estate infrastructure failure.

    Cable installation skills.

    VoIP Engineering skills.

    Excellent IT skills including MS office (word & excel).

    CAD, PPM & Project management tools.
