Key Responsibilities:As an Innovator:
To communicate effectively with senior management, peers, marketing and sales teams on project technical decisions and product benefits.
To understand the use of the product in the wider “Jobs to be done” context in support of product business model development.
To work towards becoming a recognised expert in their field, capable of supporting complex customer or field service projects – the role may involve some international travel.
To support developing and maintaining the products and product road map in their field of competence.
Be a flexible thinker, proactive and drive the design and development of new ideas that can make a difference.
To have the ability to think broadly and adopt and/or adapt technology or understanding from other fields of interest to create future business opportunities and communicate their potential to peers.
To develop and nurture significant collaborations and partnerships with customers.
To define and implement safe working methods; to understand and apply relevant engineering standards to developments; to maintain awareness of new standards which may affect the business.
As a Plasma Physicist
Work with the wider Innovation and Applications Department to transform our understanding of current, and next generation, plasma processes.
Lead the technical delivery of the integration of a tailored waveform biasing system and demonstrate the value of improved control of the ion energy.
Critique experimental data and use it when appropriate to validate the output of plasma models.
Ensure knowledge transfer of atomic scale plasma processing to the Innovation Department and wider company as required.
Present key data at international conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals to increase the global reputation of Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology.
Create new collaborations with academic and commercial partners to deliver our long-term strategy.
Education / Qualifications: A degree or higher qualification in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science. A PhD in the field of Plasma Physics or Plasma Chemistry is an advantage. An Innovation Developer must be a skilled developer of ideas. A clear background in development is preferred so a developing portfolio or industry track record of innovation is important.
Professional Skills/ Abilities:
General - Desirable Have a solid understanding of general physics and engineering principles and have a good knowledge of engineering methods and technology relevant to semiconductor processing market. Be able to demonstrate a natural, logical problem-solving ability is important. Have experience of significant involvement in development projects from inception to market delivery with a demonstrable ability to plan to meet business objectives.
Be methodical and organised and be familiar with modern project management practices (e.g., Agile and waterfall).
Have experience in mentoring junior colleagues.
Plasma - Essential
Have experience of operating commercial plasma processing tools and using tailored waveform biasing systems and using plasma diagnostics such as retarding field energy analysers.
Be knowledgeable of the impact of plasma parameters on wafer outcomes.
Have experience of how RF is applied to plasma processing.
Plasma - Desirable
Have experience in creating domestic and international collaborations.
Have experience or a willingness to learn how to run basic plasma models
Have an international network in the field of plasma modelling and plasma chemistry.
Have a strong understanding of sheath dynamics, with some experience of analysing experimental data to understand the underlying physics.
