Innovation Engineer

We are looking for an Innovation Engineer to join our Digital, Data & Technology Group.  About the role The University of Bath (UoB) is embarking on the next stage of its digital transformation journey. A key part of this is to transform the way in technology services are delivered. The Digital, Data & Technology Department (DDaT) is a passionate community of technical experts who provide digital, data and technology services that are accessible, relevant, and secure. We are motivated by helping people solve problems, be more effective in what they do today and innovating to raise the bar of what can be achieved in future.  Significant change in service provision is anticipated and it is vital to have effective, proactive engagement with other departments and faculties. This will address a key improvement required within the Evolution project to develop and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders to deliver greater efficiency, coherence, cooperation and coordination.  As part of the University’s digital transformation, DDaT has established the capability to incubate proof of concept activities. The mission of this team is to tackle the challenges of emerging technology as part of technology trials and business-led pilots and determine if new technology approaches can provide value to the University. About you  Innovation engineers build prototypes to test out-of-the-box, futuristic solutions to the biggest problems and opportunities posed to the University by emerging technological advances. The domain of exploration will be quite varied and will require an ability to understand, investigate, and implement prototypes across a wide range of different technologies, including SaaS, PaaS, Commercial off the Shelf as well as in-house custom developed software. Innovation Engineers are senior level technical specialists who can ensure that the University gets maximum value by identifying the unique possibilities presented by rapidly developing technology and turning those possibilities into reality. Innovation Engineers will support nascent technologies in DDaT during the adoption period, including enabling the university to move to a more cloud focussed development and delivery approach.
