Full time / permanent

Location: Chippenham, Wiltshire

The Opportunity

Installations & controls engineer – Qualified Electrician Level 3 installation with M&E engineer experience (qualified to carry out Inspection and Testing).

The person will be required to work unsupervised or as part of a team on various sites across Wiltshire and the UK. The purpose of the role is to install and maintain electrical system;, from power quality energy saving equipment to motor optimisation, lighting, power, energy monitoring equipment, cooling systems, renewable energy equipment such as Solar PV & controls. Carry out EICR and electrical testing when appropriate and manage and a project installation team.

What qualifications, skills and experience would I need?

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • 18th Edition BS7671
  • Level 3 Electrotechnical technology 2330 with AM2
  • Level 3 Inspecting & testing BS2391 or BS2394/5
  • ECS Gold Card
  • Full Driving Licence (no more than 6 points)
  • IPAF (desirable)
  • PASMA (desirable)
  • Asbestos Awareness Course (desirable)
  • Solar PV installation & commissioning experience (desirable)
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience
  • Commercial and Industrial 3 phase installations / fault finding
  • Controls experience
  • VSD / VFD installation & commissioning
  • Are accountable for actions / work
  • Working in the energy reduction environment (desirable)
  • Working on BMS (Building Management Systems) (desirable)
  • Solar PV installation & commissioning experience (desirable)
  • Able to prioritise work and meet deadlines

  • Methodically work through faults & issues to resolve using technical manuals, manufacturer technical support, etc.

The Role

  • Assemble, modify, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Confident and experienced working on single and 3 phase installations.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with current legislation.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Maintain current electrician’s JIB or ECS Gold card or equivalent.
  • Specify and install Voltage Optimisation, Power Factor Correction, Active Harmonic Filter systems.
  • Install & commission VSD / VFD Motor Optimisation equipment.
  • Solar PV installation & commissioning.
  • Service & Maintain equipment we install.
  • M&E experience
  • Installing & commissioning controls.
  • Carry out training and update qualifications to current electrical regulations as necessary.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local legislation and BS7671 regulations.
  • Manage and train less qualified staff to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Effectively manage an installation team to deliver projects to agreed schedule
