Job description

Working as a Clinical Coordinator (CC) is diverse and interesting, with lots of interaction with clinical and operational colleagues in OOH and the System CAS, as well as consulting with patients and healthcare professionals. The CC offers accessible clinical advice and support to clinicians working in the following elements of the service:
  • OOH (telephone/ remote consulting, face to face appointments and home visits)
  • System CAS (multi-specialty clinical team supporting reduced ED attendances and 999 calls)
  • Week Day Professional Line (WDPL) (mainly adult medical admission avoidance plus some patient consultations)
The CC role is therefore vital in supporting our people to provide excellent care for our patients, in line with BrisDoc’s values. CCs are strong team players, who are able to build collaborative and supportive working relationships with both clinical and operational colleagues. These roles are a great opportunity to build on previous Urgent Care experience (such as duty doctor experience in practice, or OOH, WDPL and System CAS) and/ or familiarity with the BNSSG Urgent Care landscape. You will be part of a diverse and very supportive team, and can work solely as a CC or undertake CC shifts as part of a wider portfolio working in Severnside, the System CAS or BrisDoc’s practice services.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to building strong relationships and links with the clinical and operational colleagues on shift, across Severnside and the System CAS
  • Close liaison with the operational Shift Manager as part of joined up clinical and operational leadership on shift
  • Discuss options, share decision making and negotiate with healthcare professional colleagues to meet patients’ needs
  • Provide clinical advice and support to clinicians, which may include (but is not limited to) prescribing support, risk holding, managing uncertainty, complexity and live safeguarding concerns, and appropriate referral pathways
  • Proactive approach to supporting the management of Urgent Care needs in the community wherever possible, including (but not limited to) promoting referrals to NHS@Home (“virtual wards”)
  • Provide advice and support to the operational Severnside Shift Manager where needed, in conjunction with the operational and clinical support structures
  • Review cases put through for appointments or home visits by triaging clinicians in out of hours prior to booking
  • Support new clinicians working their first shift(s) in the IUC service or System CAS, or colleagues joining for a ‘taster’ session with a view to working with us, when required
  • Clinical Coordinators are encouraged to supervise GP trainees, and training is available to become an approved Clinical Supervisor
BrisDoc is a proud provider of NHS Healthcare who have been passionately delivering our mission of ‘patient care, by people who care’ for over 20 years.
We run an exciting range of Primary Care Services including the SevernSide Urgent Care Service, GP Practices, and the Homeless Health Service. This enable BrisDoc to offer excellent healthcare 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to over 1 million patients across Bristol, North Somerset & South Glos.
We are a ‘Social Enterprise’ and an ‘Employee-Owned Business’ - this means the decisions we make, are for the good of our patients, workforce, and wider community. This involves prioritising the health of our patients, protecting our environment, focusing on equality, diversity, and inclusion, looking after the health & wellbeing of our team, and improving the social and economic status of our population.
We are proud to be an organisation that ‘gives back’. Our BrisDoc ‘Community Fund’ is a staff-led team which works closely with health-based charitable causes, both local and international, to invest time and money to improve lives in disadvantaged communities.
By joining BrisDoc, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary organisation that prides itself on being a fantastic place to work; somewhere that you will feel valued, supported, developed and part of a family. We strive to make sure every member of the team feels proud of the work they do and the services that we offer.
We look forward to welcoming you to the team.
