Your new company
Your new role is with a higher education organisation based in Cardiff who is looking for some temporary support for the team until they make a permanent role. This will ideally be for a 3-6 month period with the option of going permanent.
Your new role
- Provide high-level financial advice and support to the ongoing development and implementation of academic strategies within the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering.
- Lead and manage the delivery of financial accounting and procurement activities within the Schools, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and procedures, sponsor or regulatory body requirements, and best practices in financial stewardship.
- Provide high-quality financial management information and advice to assist senior staff in strategic and operational planning and management activities.
- Be a senior member of each School's professional services, working closely with the School Manager and other colleagues to ensure effective and efficient support to the School's core academic activities.

- Be a senior member of each School's professional services, working closely with the School Manager and other colleagues to ensure effective and efficient support to the School's core academic activities.
- Provide expert financial support and advice to senior staff, providing input to help inform the management and strategy of the School.
- Play an active role in the School's annual budget setting and planning process and monitor performance against agreed budgets, including preparing periodic financial statements for the Head of Schools and other budget-holders, providing variance analyses and commentaries, and proposing appropriate corrective actions where required.
- Contribute to the long-term financial management of the Schools, interpreting School strategies into work priorities to ensure that all financial services are delivered and working to enhance the financial performance of the Schools.
What you\'ll need to succeed
- Qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA).
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Substantial experience of overseeing financial operations within a financial environment.
- Able to demonstrate professional knowledge within the areas of finance and research and the policies and procedures around theseareas, to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers.
- Proven experience of designing, reviewing, adapting and implementing business processes and systems that are responsive, efficient
and cost-effective. - Excellent IT skills, including advanced knowledge of excel (pivots, v lookup etc.) and all-round knowledge of using Microsoft Office.
What you\'ll get in return
- Up to £250 per day rate circa £44k when permanent
- Hybrid working (2/3)
