Chief Constables' Message
We really welcome your interest in joining our Police Force. It is a privilege to lead the teams in Surrey Police and Sussex Police who continuously work selflessly and tirelessly in order to keep people in our counties safe.
We are looking for talented and inspirational people who put the needs of the public at the heart of everything that they do and who want to make a difference. If you feel you are that person then we want to hear from you.
We wish you all the very best with your application.
Chief Constable Tim De Meyer & Chief Constable Jo Shiner
The Role & Key Responsibilities
From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.
It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.
In this role, you will be the first port of call for all of the Intelligence submissions coming in to the department. You will need to review the contents of these submissions with a view to:
- Identify priority intelligence, including material which identifies an immediate risk (to members of the public, vulnerable victims, law enforcement staff, property or national security), or that which relates to an ongoing investigation.
- Reviewing the intelligence to ensure quality, accuracy and relevancy of the data within compliance of legislation, policy and procedure.
- Validating or revising the intelligence log evaluation (source and intelligence evaluation; and handling code).
- Sanitising the intelligence, ensuring that the source of the information cannot be identified.
- Cross reference the intelligence on local systems in order to link to all of the People, Objects, Locations and Events referred to within the submission. This involves searching the force systems to identify whether the entities already exist, confirm whether the existing entity matches that referred to, and in the absence of an existing entity, creating a new entity.
- Disseminate the intelligence according to the threat and risk posed, this may be within the force and also, where appropriate, to other Police forces and external partner agencies to ensure the effective flow of information. Dissemination has to be made in accordance with information sharing protocols and appropriate legislation.
The Intelligence Processor role involves working a shift pattern which includes bank holidays and also one weekend in three. The shifts span the period 0700 to 2200. Weekend working will be on an early shift (08.00 to 16.00) which comes with an additional payment (shift allowance).
Skills & Experience
- 5 GCSEs grade C or above (or equivalent) to include English.
- Previous experience of assessing and making sense of relevant information.
- The ability to identify potential risk, assess information for data quality and accuracy against given standards, consider information in the light of other information which may alter its risk and/or relevance, make links between information.
- Proven ability to search and process information using own initiative to solve problems, taking reasoned and responsible decisions that consider all the relevant factors and information.
- Have effective time-management and prioritisation skills, to meet deadlines without constant or close supervision.
- Able to demonstrate accurate keyboard and data entry skills and competence in the use of Windows based software (including spreadsheets and databases).
- Have the ability to learn and apply skills in Surrey & Sussex Police systems.
- Proven written communications skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate written records and reports.
- Able to demonstrate excellent oral communications skills, being confident to initiate or respond efficiently with enquiries from staff and partners and demonstrating a customer service focused approach to dealing with enquiries.
- The ability to work calmly and effectively, especially when working under pressure.
- A flexible approach towards achieving team objectives and be willing to undertake a wide range of administrative duties.
- The ability to quickly acquire and apply knowledge of appropriate legislation and administrative polices, procedures and systems in order to ensure that intelligence and data is managed correctly.
- To be flexible with working hours to ensure resilience within the team and meet the requirements of the role. On occasions this may be to support fast time response to critical incidents, major events and serious crime or disorder.
- The post-holder must have a high level of personal integrity and successfully attain and maintain security vetting and appropriate clearance to work in the post-holder's intelligence environment.
