Job Description

About the role

Meaningful work. Human impact. A story we’re proud to tell.

National Grid Interconnectors is at the heart of UK’s transition to our net zero energy future. We operate a number of HVDC interconnectors that connect the UK’s energy system to some of our closest neighbours, allowing energy to be imported to and exported from the UK. As well as already owning a portfolio of HVDC Interconnectors, we’re working on developing new projects to ensure that we are able to meet the UK’s future demands for greener energy solutions.

As a Communications and Events Lead, you'll work closely with the Interconnectors Executive Leadership Team to lead our internal Communications and internal and external events, advocating the Interconnectors business.

This role requires adaptability, working at pace and provides a fantastic opportunity to communicate the strategic direction and benefits of the Interconnectors portfolio both internally and externally, as well as Executive level visibility.

You'll have demonstrable events and project management skills, and ideally experience of delivering Communications and engagement activities. Working with a variety of stakeholders will be essential, so relationship management is key.

This role is Warwick based. You can enjoy hybrid working but we’d like to see you in the office at least one day a week. We’re happy to discuss other flexible working arrangements that you feel could help make this job work for you. Travel to other locations will also be required, as will be European travel.

Key accountabilities
  • Provide monthly communication and event updates to the Interconnectors Executive Team as part of the monthly Leadership Performance Meeting, managing the overall plan.
  • Develop and deliver an internal and external communications strategy for Interconnectors including routine, seasonal and ad-hoc communications.
  • Working closely with Corporate Affairs and NGV Internal Comms, deliver Communications and materials to promote the benefits of Interconnectors, both internally and externally, including entries for external Awards and a pipeline of content for social media.
  • Ownership and management of the events budget, including raising relevant purchase orders, invoices, and receipts utilising the Coupa system.
  • Develop and deliver an annual internal and external events strategy for Interconnectors.
  • Working closely with Project Teams, Stakeholder Engagement, and Corporate Affairs – plan, organise and project manage key annual events including, but not limited to:
    • Internal – Interconnectors Conference, Friends & Family Events, and the Leadership Offsite Conference.
    • External – Wind Europe, Global Offshore Wind Conference (Renewable UK), BIEE Conference.
About you
  • Excellent planning and event management skills, and the ability to manage an events budget.
  • Able to draft and present clear, concise summaries of events and briefings with recommendations for management.
  • Knowledge of external communication channels and experience of how to get the best value out of them.
  • Experience of working closely with and alongside senior leadership with good interpersonal and influencing skills to challenge stakeholders confidently and credibly at many levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with rigorous attention to detail.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office tools – PowerPoint, Word, Excel.
  • Proficient user of Coupa and ability to raise purchase orders, invoices, and receipts (training can be provided).
  • Knowledge of interconnectors and their place in the energy market would be a bonus.
What you'll get

A competitive salary between £44,000 - £50,000 – dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
