Job description

Location: London (office based)
Salary: £26k-£30k (pro-rata) per annum depending on experience
Hours: Minimum 2 days per week
Contract Type: 3 months Fixed Term Contract (with possible extension)

THE ROLE

Expeditions Construction Innovation team is a fast-growing and dynamic group focussed on delivering high-value, independent advice to some of the UKs largest and most influential client groups.

Youll be joining a team of 15 dedicated engineers and consultants, working on some of the critical challenges for our industry. Projects include providing strategic advice to Sizewell C, HS2 and TfL to tackle some of their most complex problems.

Now we are looking for talented and enthusiastic under-graduates, masters and masters research students to join our growing Construction Innovation team. We typically look for people with an engineering or innovation background, but we are actively looking for applicants with diversity of experience and qualifications.

This is an opportunity for us to get to know you and for you to get to know us before you finish your course. The role is typically for a fixed term, depending on the individual situation and your course/mode of study and we aim to be flexible for the right candidates! Placements are normally full-time, but we also consider part time (minimum 2 days per week) e.g. whilst writing your research dissertation.

The role is broad, and we are looking for candidates who might not be ready to be boxed into an engineering niche!

The role might involve:
  • Strategic design support for all types of infrastructure
  • Structured research and data analysis
  • Productivity and efficiency studies and improvement initiatives for major infrastructure
  • Driving projects towards Net Zero Carbon
  • Pioneering new solutions with a focus on manufactured / industrialised approaches
Ultimately, each day and project are different, so we are looking for intelligent generalists!
What you will bring
  • An Engineering or Science based background. This might be as an undergraduate in an engineering focussed subject or as a masters student in a similar field.
  • Strong communication, analytical skills and creativethinking.
  • Good presentation skills and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Resilience, diligence and a passion for teamwork.
  • We are looking for driven, enthusiastic people who are keen to make a difference in the built environment and who will in turn challenge us to think differently and deliver our best.

Our commitment to you

As one of our Placement Student colleagues we will:
  • Ensure you gain hands-on experience on some of the sectors leading-edge innovation and productivity improvement projects
  • Achieve technical, professional and personal growth through exposure to some of the industrys leading thinkers
  • Have the opportunity to learn and work on projects across the breadth of Useful Simple Trust teams, including our masterplanning, infrastructure consultancy and sustainability teams
  • Operate within an engineering network and engage with other like-minded graduates
  • Work in challenging, diverse and inclusive environments
