Salary: £33,966 to £38,205 pro rata

18.5 hours per week
Closing Date: Sunday 21 April 2024

We are recruiting a part-time International Student Adviser to provide expert immigration advice to our community of International Students at the university, and foster networks with relevant teams within the university as well as governmental bodies to support success for International Students.

The primary purpose of this role is to support the recruitment and retention of International Students at the University by providing specialist advice to non-UK students, including casework and advocacy, while adhering to the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) Code of Standards. As one of the University's immigration advice specialists, you will work directly with students, managing a varied caseload of advice work while also contributing to a range of initiatives and events within the team to support and empower International Students.

The role is based in Student Operations & Support; however, you will be expected to build collaborative relationships and networks across the university including with teams in Academic Registry, as well as with relevant national bodies and other universities.  As the successful applicant you will need to have a comprehensive knowledge of Student route immigration as well as other related routes including the Graduate, Skilled Worker, and Visitor routes as applicable to students, and be confident advising to OISC Level 2. In order to be successful in this post, you should have:

  • A strong track record and recent previous experience of providing immigration advice at OISC Level 2, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Significant knowledge of International Student advice issues and of appropriate support mechanisms.
  • Experience of maintaining an effective network of contacts with key internal stakeholder and external bodies, to facilitate effective support and service delivery.
  • Effective IT skills, including Microsoft Office, databases (i.e. SITS and SharePoint) and on-line systems.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the challenges facing higher education including knowledge and understanding of the policy environment around International Student immigration.

This post is offered on a part-time (18.5 hours per week), permanent basis. Requests for job sharing will be considered, however as the role is below full-time such requests may be difficult to accommodate.

The University has an agile working framework, which enables some home working. The post-holder will be expected to work on site at the university's Moulsecoomb campus for an average of 40% of their working hours each week, as agreed with the line manager.

The University is committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive environment for all staff regardless of age, disability, family or caring responsibilities, gender identity, marital status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief (including non-belief), sex and sexual orientation. We embrace equality and diversity in our working, learning, research and teaching environment and are committed to maintaining a supportive and inclusive community. We particularly encourage applicants from Minority Ethnic backgrounds because the University is under-represented by Minority Ethnic staff.

For the vast majority of our roles, we operate an agile working system with time split between working on campus and at the employee's home. It is the University's expectation that home working will take place within the UK.

Further information about working for us, as well as the wide range of benefits we offer, can be found in the  section of our vacancies page.
