Job description

As an intern within the Economics & Operations advisory group, you will become part of an enthusiastic, close-knit team of motivated colleagues! At the same time, you are part of a renowned international consultancy and engineering firm with almost 6,000 employees, with all the benefits that this entails.

What you do as Intern Junior Maritime Economist

As an intern you fall under the direct supervision of the team manager. In principle you help on all subjects, but if your studies require it, it is possible to focus on a specific subject. We would be happy to discuss a suitable topic with you. Themes we are interested in include the following:

  • Energy transition: how will the European port market organize itself around new fuels?;
  • Climate: scenario planning by port authorities and terminals on climate change;
  • Port-city challenges and opportunities;
  • Logistics: Analysis of options for optimizing the role of inland ports in Europe within logistics chains (containers and other cargo types);

Several internship types are possible.

Where you will work

Royal HaskoningDHV is a worldwide independent engineering, project management and consultancy firm which integrates 140 years of engineering expertise with digital technologies and software solutions. Our 6,000 colleagues are working from offices in more than 25 countries across the world. Through our mission Enhancing Society Together, we take responsibility for having a positive impact on the world.

As an intern you will work in the Economics & Operations Advisory Group, part of the Business Line Water & Maritime (W&M). It is a group of experts that primarily focuses on shipping companies, port authorities, terminal operators, banks, investment funds and IFIs. We support our customers by providing insight into the development of their market and assets. We offer our knowledge when they are faced with investment decisions or enter into a transaction to acquire or dispose of an interest in assets in this sector. Our services therefore consist of market studies, commercial due diligence studies, business cases, social cost-benefit analyses, PPP advisory and strategic consultancy. The knowledge and experience from this group is also used for projects in other Business Lines within Royal HaskoningDHV, such as in the field of energy transition, industry, mobility and infrastructure. The group operates from offices in the Netherlands, England (London), Singapore and Indonesia. For the further development of our team in London, we are looking for an intern in the Port and Transport Economics domain, ideally for a period of 3 to 4 months.

What you bring

You have experience with independently setting up financial and/or economic models in Excel. You have strong analytical skills. You have good personal skills and are curious to learn new things. You also match these requirements:

  • A Master's degree in the field of Economics/Econometrics (or ongoing studies) and good grades;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Excellent command of English;
  • The potential and ambition to become a strategic consultant.

What we offer you

Royal HaskoningDHV is ranked in the global top 10 of consultancy and engineering firms in the maritime domain. That is why doing an internship or graduation research at Royal HaskoningDHV is a good start to a successful career, with us or elsewhere. If you do an internship with us, you will become a temporary employee and get to know the organization from the inside. During your internship you will work together with people who, just like you, think further where others stop. Your insights and knowledge are very welcome when looking for the most suitable solution for a customer question.

We have an inspiring work environment. A key characteristic of our corporate culture is the freedom and responsibility to develop our own initiatives. We also strive for a good balance between home and work. Naturally, we offer an appropriate internship allowance.

We offer you an environment in which you work together with highly motivated colleagues who belong to the top of the market. With us you can further develop your expertise and general advisory skills at a rapid pace.
