Elegans or drosophila would be ideal, but experience with any commonly used organisms would also be useful.

This role is designed for PhD students, but if you are a masters graduate, and think you have the relevant skills and knowledge, there may be more junior positions available in the team, so feel free to apply.

You will be a part of the Invertebrate Genetics team, using molecular genetic approaches to address questions on mode of action/ resistance of active ingredients, defining and executing strategies to support target led discovery programmes.

In return, you will be supported by a large, cross- functional project team, working with a wide range of different kind of scientist with opportunities for skills development. On top of this, you will have access to use 38 days of annual leave per year!

  • Develop a broad awareness of insect physiology and seek to identify genotypes which could be used as tools for insecticide mode-of-action validation, determination and for exploring mechanisms of resistance.
  • Introduce new technologies, techniques or ways of working to improve productivity of existing projects/platforms.
  • Contribute to the automation of invertebrate platforms to support insecticide/nematicide projects and active ingredient discovery.
  • Maintain awareness of project key strategic goals. Propose, design, and carry out appropriate experiments using invertebrates to achieve these goals.
  • Communicate outcomes of experimental activities with stakeholders.

  • Must have worked with model or pest invertebrates with experience in molecular genetic approaches.
  • First-hand experience of micro-injection techniques in invertebrate species is desirable.
  • Experience in invertebrate husbandry and handling of DEFRA licenced insects is desirable.
