Job description

Some careers shine brighter than others.

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

HSBC Asset Management (AM), the investment management business of the HSBC Group, serves HSBC’s worldwide customer base of retail and private clients, intermediaries, corporates and institutions invested in both segregated accounts and pooled funds. HSBC Asset Management fulfils its purpose of connecting HSBC’s clients with investment opportunities around the world through an international network of offices in approximately 30 countries, delivering global capabilities with local market insight.

The Governance team plays a pivotal role in supporting the office of the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), providing investment governance, process oversight and commentary across the global investment platform. This covers over 150 fund managers in 12 global locations, running close to 300 strategies within the traditional investment areas. The team provides detailed analysis on investments using various quantitative and qualitative tools, applying a thorough understanding of investment risk models to recognise and query the drivers of market risk and the implications on product performance and attribution. The team manages the investment process framework to ensure the application of robust, transparent and consistent processes, as well as to maintain the integrity and strengthen the efficacy of our Investment Excellence framework, ultimately leading to better client outcomes.  The Governance team also provides insightful and timely investment commentary to senior stakeholders and Board members.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you will:

  • Conduct comprehensive portfolio analysis of the global range of Equity, Fixed Income, Multi-Asset, Quantitative Equity & Liquidity funds, analysing key risk and performance drivers and providing challenge to the investment teams during quarterly governance meetings.
  • Assist with managing the Investment Process Committee review function, in order to help define how we assess and drive improvement of our investment processes at HSBC.
  • Support the team in the development and maintenance of the Investment Excellence framework, ensuring the integrity and quality of key statistics used to confirm that funds align with expectations in various market environments.
  • Produce insightful and well-crafted investment commentaries, ranging from high level market summaries to in-depth fund and security analysis.
  • Play a key role in the improvement of the team’s processes, systems and analysis tools to facilitate effective portfolio analysis and challenge.

Request

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Holding or working towards a professional certification such as CFA or FRM would be desirable. A keen interest in financial markets and a solid understanding of financial instruments is essential.
  • Proficiency in risk sensitivities, modern portfolio theory and security analysis as well as familiarity with portfolio management techniques used across traditional asset classes.
  • Confident in using analytical tools, adept at interpreting data and proficient report writing skills.
  • Self-assured, adaptable and open to taking on new responsibilities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills coupled with a positive and proactive attitude are also necessary.

This is a hybrid working role with the base location as Birmingham. The successful candidate will have to have the ability to commute to this location.
