Job description

This is a fantastic opportunity to build a function within our small unit and shape its future. Our goal is to help the business analyse data trends to make better decisions, and the role holder will work closely with stakeholders to identify issues and use data to propose solutions for effective decision-making.

Our small unit specialises in assisting with insights into our data with an emphasis on prediction and prevention, and by giving the BAU and management extra insights from the data collected. We're looking for a like-minded technical enthusiast who likes to contribute, mentor, and shape this section of our unit and, more importantly, loves the challenge.

This role offers a hybrid of office and home working (the option to work part of your week from home becomes available after the completion of an initial training period).

You will need to live within a commutable distance from our Bath office, as being able to work collaboratively with our business stakeholders and project teams is key to this role.

What you'll do

The role holder will work in conjunction with a team of IoT specialists, the ‘IoT Lab', delivering proof-of-value agile experiments as well as larger projects and maintenance of the live system on-premise and in the cloud.

You will:

  • assist with information gathering/requirements elicitations
  • analyse datasets to extract insights and decide on the appropriate technique
  • meet with stakeholders, providing recommendations for statistical/machine learning tools and technologies to prototype new concepts
  • retrieve and collect open and closed data sources and hybrid environments, including data processing, cleansing and verification
  • apply machine learning algorithms and libraries
  • build algorithms based on statistical modelling procedures, and build and maintain scalable machine learning solutions in production
  • build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms
  • carry out statistical analysis including data modelling and hypothesis testing
  • present information using data visualization techniques
  • produce documentation and deliver workshops
  • communicate and explain complex processes to people who are not programming experts.

What you'll need

Ideally, you will have:

  • experience with SQL and NoSQL
  • experience with the software development lifecycle and DevOps/ML-Ops
  • hands-on coding experience, (Python, R and Scala are preferred)
  • knowledge of various machine learning techniques and their real-world advantages/drawbacks
  • knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts and their applications
  • knowledge of Azure cloud technologies (ADX, ADF, Azure ML, Databricks and Azure Data Lake Storage)
  • data modelling experience
  • ML-Ops experience
  • machine learning experience, including designing and developing the end-to-end machine learning life cycle
  • visualisation experience, including BI Tools
  • experience with operational technology (desirable)
  • an MSc in Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a similar field (desirable).

What you'll receive

  • Total pension contributions up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary.
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • An interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone to work for us.
