IT Architect
Job Description
The IT Architect plays an important role in the Information Technology function at SUSE. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, this role will work closely with leaders and other IT architects across our IT operation to align domains, platforms, systems and applications with our business strategies and our security and privacy standards.
The IT estate at SUSE serves to ensure that our business can thrive. Amongst our services, we support our Product Engineers by ensuring they have the secure capacity and the protections they need to build great SUSE products. We support our Sales and Marketing teams to delight customers and provide a robust and compliant customer experience. And, we provision all our business services teams with safe tooling to be evermore productive, accurate and performant.
The growth we experience here at SUSE means our IT systems and operations need to be agile to business requirements and also to outside threats. While providing best in class tools, we need to ensure that we reduce IT risks, limit redundant networks, infrastructure & identity services, and that we get the best use from our hardware and software tools. This role will plan and manage the security standards and components of our IT architecture, maintaining robust governance and documentation, to ensure our IT estate always underpins SUSE’s operations, securely and effectively. In parallel, this role will work with other IT architects and engineers on IT solutions delivery and change.
Focus Areas
Strategic Planning:
Collaborate with IT team members, business operators and managers at all levels to understand, capture and catalog objectives, systems, tools, processes and documentation
Support the development and maintenance of an enterprise architecture strategy that aligns with the organization's overall strategy and maintains agreed levels of security and privacy
Provide architectural guidance and standards, to improve and align architectural practices across the IT team
Stay updated on emerging secure technologies, cyber and privacy standards and trends
Design & Documentation:
Support the design and documentation of the overall structure of the enterprise's IT systems and processes
Provide enterprise, solution, and security designs and documentation in the form of proposals, presentations and reports
Create and maintain documentation related to our enterprise architecture, including the security of our estate
Ensure that architectural content and folders are accessible and up-to-date
Governance & Risk Management:
Ensure that technology solutions align with the enterprise architecture
Establish and enforce security governance processes for IT architecture change
Ensure compliance with architectural standards and guidelines
Identify and address potential security and compliance risks
Develop strategies for mitigating risks associated with technology solutions
Collaboration & Involvement:
Facilitate the Architecture Working Group meetings, which bring IT architects and engineers together regularly to review and discuss solutions and change
Provide technical knowledge and guidance to development teams
Work closely with business units and IT teams to understand their needs and requirements
Foster collaboration between different IT departments to ensure a unified approach to IT architecture
Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical teams
Required Experience & Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in information technology, cyber security, or a related field
Proficiency or certifications in enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman)
Minimum of 5 years experience in a technology architect role (e.g. Security, Solutions, Data, Enterprise)
Experience or accountability for implementing security architecture frameworks, standards and processes
Knowledge of a wide range of technologies and platforms

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and technological landscapes
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
