Key responsibilities:
As an IT Desktop Support Technician, you will be responsible for assisting employees with hardware and software-related technical issues, troubleshooting problems, and ensuring efficient operation of computer systems and peripherals. Your primary goal will be to provide prompt, friendly, and effective support to end-users, enabling them to maximise productivity and meet their daily work requirement.
- End-User Support: Deliver outstanding customer service by responding to and resolving IT support requests via various channels, including in-person, email, and phone.
- Hardware Maintenance: Install, configure, and troubleshoot desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, and other IT peripherals.
- Software Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot software-related issues, including operating systems, applications, and user accounts.
- Network Connectivity: Assist users in connecting to the corporate network, Wi-Fi, and VPN, and troubleshoot connectivity problems.
- Software Deployment: Facilitate the installation and upgrading of software applications, ensuring proper licensing and adherence to company policies.
- System Upgrades and Patch Management: Collaborate with the IT team to perform system updates, patches, and upgrades to ensure security and optimal performance.
- IT Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of support requests, troubleshooting steps, and solutions in the IT knowledge base.
- User Training: Conduct basic user training on various IT tools, software, and best practices to enhance end-user knowledge and proficiency.
- Hardware Inventory Management: Keep track of IT assets, maintain inventory, and assist in procurement when necessary.
- Security and Data Protection: Ensure compliance with security protocols, including data backup, antivirus installations, and access controls.
- Collaborative Problem-Solving: Work with other IT team members to resolve complex technical issues and escalate problems as needed.
- Continual Improvement: Stay up to date with the latest IT trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance the overall support service.
Skills and experience required:
- Proven experience as a Desktop Support Technician or similar role.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
- Strong knowledge of Windows is essential and knowledge of macOS is desirable.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and common productivity applications.
- Basic understanding of computer networks, TCP/IP, and troubleshooting network connectivity.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with end-users.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and manage time efficiently.
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST), or similar will be a plus.
This employment package:
Salary: £25,000 - £32,000 DOE
Term: Full Time and permanent
Location: Leicester office based. Due to the nature of this role, the role does not afford remote working.
