About the role

In your role as IT Monitoring & Compliance Analyst you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset.

​This role will provide a great opportunity to work as part of the Network and Cyber Security team with a focus on providing day to day assurances that the security and monitoring platforms in place at USS are operating as the organisation requires.

​As IT Monitoring & Compliance Analyst, you will provide effective oversight by utilising and improving existing toolsets and responding to alerts to provide a second line of defence to ensure operational teams are adhering to defined policies and best practices.

​Additionally, you will be identifying full value and reporting across the various platforms and provide assurances to the business around the reporting and management of security incidents, systems incidents and compliance status across our security and data centre platforms.

​Also, you will be producing reports for governance and audit purposes as required and identifying automation opportunities to enable other teams in accessing this information as required.

What you will be doing

As a trusted part of the IT you will be responsible for:

  • Develop metrics and dashboards to demonstrate security coverage and highlight risks and issues in real time
  • Complete regular reviews on access levels and work with operation to ensure these remain appropriate
  • Leverage existing monitoring and compliance tools to oversee security controls and adherence to policies
  • Verify that operational teams comply with defined security policies and best practices
  • Will be responsible for the daily monitoring and review of some security incidents, ensuring each incident is managed, logged and escalated appropriately
  • Ownership of the Monitoring and Reporting platforms for Network and Security. Ensuring fit for purpose, suggesting changes and improvements and ensuring value is being recognised across the platforms
  • Analyse data from various platforms to give meaningful insights. This includes understanding the effectiveness of security measures and identifying areas for improvement
  • Responsible for auditing requirements in relation to IT Security – reports, checks, evidence with both internal and external auditing functions
  • Report on the status of support, maintenance, development, and governance of all security platforms including but not limited to SIEM, NAC, Vulnerability Management, Firewalls, 2FA, Endpoint Security, e-mail security and web security
  • With customer services a priority for the Technology Services function, provide the team with the business knowledge to understand how our organisation works enabling the correct prioritisation of work
  • Engage with key stakeholders on a regular basis, encouraging an open and collaborative communication stream across both Liverpool and London departments
  • Have technical input into Infrastructure technology and operational projects
  • Assist Monitoring & Compliance Analyst with escalations relating to daily tasks under the umbrella of patching and maintenance, ensuring the USS infrastructure is secure and stable for all users
  • Assist senior management with policy and procedure governance ensuring it is up to date
  • Assist Monitoring & Compliance Analyst to produce reports packs as identified requirements from across the business
