IT Support Technician
£29,605 - £33,966 per annum

The IT Team provides technical support services to the user base, the main components of which are: business services, remote site support, networking, private network management, scientific compute and storage. The post-holder will work closely with an established System Support Technician. They will provide face to face and remote (Zoom) technical assistance to users of the department and second line systems support for IT systems. The role provides a first line support function for the IT Team completing system build and configuration tasks, on-site support visits and resolving technical problems.
Responsibilities:
- End user (office and lab user) IT support for Windows desktop PCs and laptops
- Moving computers between offices around the Addenbrookes site
- User administration/induction support
- Audio-visual support
- New PC/laptop build, for which knowledge of Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) would be advantageous
Key requirements:
- Enthusiastic candidate who does not mind “getting their hands dirty”, not feeling that dealing with any of the more menial/repetitive tasks of day-to-day IT/helpdesk support is beneath them
- Prepared to move around quite a lot throughout the day visiting various offices across the campus some are a ~10min walk apart, separated by a number of flights of stairs
- Able to visit some of the more remote offices (each in Ely, Wisbech and Waterbeach) from time to time (say one of these locations for a day/half-day each fortnight) to provide face-to-face support, and so having own transport and being confident with travel would also be essential
- A solid understanding of modern Windows as it operates in a domain environment, knowledge of common issues/resolutions, great troubleshooting skills, a friendly, engaging demeanour and prior experience with administration of user accounts and groups in Active Directory along with an understanding of how to apply CIFS and NTFS file permissions on network storage are all essential
