Job Introduction:
We have an exciting opportunity for a producer to work on the new daytime weekend show that serves the audiences of BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. It's a four day a week role, live producing the show on a Saturday and Sunday and setting on the other two days. We are looking for a creative producer who thrives on crafting great radio, who knows which guests people want to hear from when they're doing the gardening, making the Sunday lunch or busy at work. For the right candidate this is a great chance to build a successful radio show, appealing to the loyal audiences that the stations already have, and tempting new listeners to join them. Creating strong digital content will also be a key part of this role. As there is a smaller team at the weekend, we need a producer who is organised, self-motivated and confident implementing the BBC's editorial guidelines.
Main responsibilities - What everyday tasks are expected whilst in this role?

  • This job will involve weekend working, as you'll be responsible for live outputting the regional daytime show each week.
  • The two other days will be spent setting up the shows, and working elsewhere as part of the audio team as needed.
  • Together with the presenter you'll find great guests, book experts for the popular gardening phone-in and create other features for the shows.
  • You'll also be responsible for creating digital content, both on social media and for BBC Sounds.

Are you the right candidate? - What skills experience etc do you need to excel in this role?

  • You'll have experience of producing live radio content.
  • You'll be a team player and have creative ideas for guests and features.
  • You'll have the ability to deliver local content for digital platforms, or the willingness to learn.
  • You'll know the patch (or part of it) with an understanding of the stories that matter to our existing audiences and how we could do more to grow our audience.
  • You'll know how to find the stories that matter to a diverse range of communities in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, and how to get people talking about them.
  • We're looking for someone who is organised, self-motivated and bursting with original ideas.
