Job description

The Opportunity:
Avantor is looking for a Bio-bank Sample Technician, to join our team. The Human Biological Samples Biobank is positioned within the Innovative Medicines organisational structure and manages the storage and supply of human tissue samples from multiple Biobanks in the UK and Sweden.
This role will be a full-time position based at The Discovery Centre in Cambridge, offered on a temporary basis - 12 months. Do you have degree in science-related discipline and brief Sample Management experience that you would like to build on? If so, read on!
Your time will be divided between computer-based tasks (60% of you time) and laboratory (40% of your time).
You'll join a close-knit team of 5 Biobank Scientist. The team is processing, registering and re-labelling incoming human tissue samples and making sure they are available for Scientist.
What we’re looking for?
  • Education: Degree in science related discipline, or equivalent experience desirable
  • Experience: We are looking for candidates with experience in Sample Management, but we also will consider graduates who are interested in getting experience in Bio-bank and dealing with many samples of a daily basis. If you have great attention to details, you are computer literate and are happy to work using various computer software, we are looking for you!
How you will thrive and create an impact?
  • Sample handling and making sure the samples are received, inventoried, logged, labelled, stored, tracked, dispatched, returned and/or disposed
  • Maintaining the inventory of Human Biological Samples in accordance with Good Clinical Practice
  • Track all work-in-progress using specialised informatics systems as well as databases, so that there is a common understanding of status at all times
  • Responding to internal and external customer queries via e-mail or telephone
  • Maintain compliance by monitoring and following-up on key dates (e.g. end of check-out period for samples)
