Job description

Junior Business Analyst - Sun Tech (Hybrid)

We are News UK Technology: using technology to innovate and lead the global conversation on the future of media and storytelling. We keep people at the heart of our business through value-driven and inclusive practices enabling our staff to grow and thrive. As such, we are proud members of Tech Talent Charter UK with 34% of our Tech roles filled by gender minorities. News UK Tech is an award-winning team, winning Team of the Year at the UK Business and Innovation Awards, 2023.

We are The Sun: The Sun comprises digital product teams supporting development and enhancement of The Sun Website, The Sun Mobile App and Sun Savers. It’s an exciting time for us as we align workstreams to be more innovative and audience facing.

The Sun websites and apps are critical to the continued success of the brand. We are an agile, cross-functional programme, working together to ensure the digital products can continue to meet the needs of the business and customers by improving the user experience, underlying platform and operational tools for teams.

Your Role: We’re looking for a Junior Business Analyst to join The Sun Technology to work with the development team to translate Product visions into requirements and solutions that can be successfully delivered.  We are currently in a process of building new capabilities as well as continuing the journey to improve the features offered on our platform.

We are a fast paced, forward thinking and enjoyable place to work. Business Analysts here are at the heart of our most exciting initiatives to ensure alignment between business goals and technical implementations.

Day to day

  • You will work within an Agile product team that also comprises the following disciplines - engineering (which also includes QA), product management, project management and UX&D.

  • You will engage in business analysis activities that ensure that we continue to develop and improve our widely recognised media products to support the immediate and long term business needs.

  • You will work in close partnership with the Product Managers to ensure backlogs are high quality in terms of content, visibility, and understanding of business value.

  • You will be expected to perform in depth analysis on prioritised initiatives in a way that they can eventually be broken down into clearly understandable epics and user stories that can be prioritised according to their clearly outlined business value.

  • Part of your role undoubtedly will include partnering with the development and other team members to structure and format good requirements and stories further ensuring the team is self-sufficient and you are not acting as a translator/scribe.

  • When stories are delivered you should ensure there is feedback to the team and the business stakeholders on the value that was created.

  • You should also expect to actively research best practice and strategic direction within the industry and find ways to share this back into the team. Part of your role will also include contributing and maintaining the quality of BA standards and practices

What we’re looking for from you:

Requirements elicitation and analysis

  • Experience in eliciting requirements through various techniques (workshops, interviews, shadowing, etc) and creating comprehensive documentation, including functional specifications, user stories, and use cases, to clearly communicate requirements (outlining business value, risks, assumptions and constraints) to development teams and business stakeholders where required.

  • Experience facilitating conversations outlining potential solutions and prioritising options based on business value or required outcomes.

  • Working experience or knowledge of responsive websites, REST APIs and tools such as postman is desirable.

  Building Trust and Collaboration

  • Encourage and help seek ways to establish (or re-establish) more efficient and effective ways of working across all stakeholders (including 3rd parties where applicable) to ensure clear accountabilities and common understanding of opportunities and next steps.

  • Have a positive attitude and an optimistic outlook, and contribute towards creating a more collaborative, open and trusted working environment.

Facilitation & Communication

  • A believer in continuous improvement

  • Comfortable with managing own and team’s work based on constantly changing business requirements and priorities by keeping focus on the business strategy and cost of delay.
