Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Junior Clinical Research project coordinator to join the Cambridge Clinical Mitochondrial Research Group (MitoCAMB: https://www-neurosciences.medschl.cam.ac.uk/mitocamb/) in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, University of Cambridge. MitoCAMB is a growing team of clinicians and PI's (with affiliated research laboratories), focussed on understanding the genetic basis and mechanisms of mitochondrial diseases, including mitochondrial eye diseases, and other rare inherited neurological disorders.  The role holder will be based at Addenbrooke's Hospital and will work alongside our friendly and multidisciplinary team to recruit patients to a range of investigative and longitudinal Clinical Research studies and clinical trials (both commercial and academic-led). The post holder will work with other team members to support the group's Clinical Research activity, by assisting with the recruitment of participants, and the coordination of clinic visits, examinations and assessments for a number of studies. They will have a strong focus on data collection, and will assist in accurate record keeping with reference to case report files, clinical & sample databases, and data monitoring visits.   The role holder will also support participants through investigations (e.g. MRIs, cognitive assessments and physiological tests), attend clinics, perform venepuncture for collection of research blood samples, and complete basic laboratory processing of human samples. The nature of the studies mean that some flexibility in working hours may be required.  In addition, the post-holder will need to work with a range of other teams within the hospital (e.g. Imaging, Clinical Research Facilities, Pharmacy), and consequently excellent communications skills are a necessity.  This varied and rewarding role would suit a highly motivated, meticulous individual with a personable and flexible approach, to assist in facilitating world-class and international research studies, and contribute to improving the treatments and outcomes for neurological disease patients.  This role provides the opportunity to grow a diversity of skills and learn from experienced team members in areas such as Clinical Research, data management, PPIE and rare diseases. Although some prior experience of Good Clinical Practice, informed consent, blood processing and phlebotomy would be an advantage, full training will be provided.  The group and the wider University of Cambridge are committed, in their pursuit of academic and research excellence, to a pro-active and inclusive approach to equality, which supports and encourages all under-represented groups, promotes an inclusive culture, and values diversity. The University particularly encourages candidates from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds to apply. This is a full-time post but candidates seeking part time working would also be considered.  Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extending beyond this. Interview date: Interviews are likely to be held week commencing 12th February 2024 - ideally in-person, but virtual will be considered. This appointment requires a Research Passport application. To apply online for this vacancy and to view further information about the role, please click the 'Apply' button above. Please ensure that you outline how you match the criteria for the post and why you are applying for this role on the online application form. Please include details of your referees, including email address and phone number, one of which must be your most recent line manager. The University actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society.
