Job description

Salary: London up to £38,500 per annum and National up to £37,200 per annum

We are seeking a motivated Associate to join the Cross-cutting Market Analysis and Strategy Department in the Payments and Digital Assets Directorate.

The Department

The Department performs an integral role in defining the FCA strategies for payments and digital assets, designing and implementing data strategy, identifying, and managing risk through data, training, external engagement, horizon scanning and initiative-taking identification of trends, amongst other things. The role is a fantastic opportunity to have influence in the fascinating world of payments and digital assets and to develop in-depth knowledge of the sectors.

What you will be doing?

As an Associate focussing on data analysis, you would play a key role in analysing the payments and digital assets sectors and helping evidence and inform the FCA’s strategy for the sectors.

The key responsibilities will be:

  • The design and delivery of data collection and evaluation to support the FCA’s strategy for payments and digital assets, using proprietary and open-source data tools, platforms, and analytical tool kits
  • Presenting the outcomes of data analysis in clear, concise, and impactful ways (including to senior stakeholders) using data visualisation techniques and software to inform decisions
  • Working with crypto policy and supervision, and payments policy and supervision teams to create and maintain dashboards with agreed metrics
  • Identifying new opportunities to use data analysis and data visualisation to support projects and priorities
  • Driving and embedding cultural change throughout the Directorate regarding data and analytics, providing training where needed to improve understanding

The skills and experience you will have

Minimum

We are a signatory to the Government’s Disability Confident scheme. This means that we will offer an interview to disabled candidates entering under the scheme, should they meet the minimum criteria for a role.

  • Experience working in financial services, legal, accounting or in another sector for a regulator or public body
  • Experience in interrogating, manipulating, and analysing data using data visualisation dashboards (e.g., Tableau and/ or Power BI and/or Python/R)

Essential

  • Awareness of the digital assets, payments, and e-money sectors
  • Experience of analysing information or data; exercising robust, consistent judgements that balance a range of competing factors, and conveying their implications in a concise manner
  • Experience of building good working relationships with stakeholders to support the delivery of departmental priorities through data analysis
  • Experience of working at pace and under pressure
  • Experience of balancing and managing priorities, working solo and in a team
