We’re seeking an attentive front end super hero to join our dev team. Yay.com is one of the UK’s leading providers of UCaaS / VOIP services for homes and businesses through their innovative suite of front-end tools with a totally unique and bespoke back-end engine.

We are keen to hear from Computing, Physics or Maths faculty grads, but we'll be sure to measure you on the skills you've acquired and would love to hear from all applicants! We aren't interested in candidates with text-book knowledge only, we want to hear from those with oodles of passion, a curious personality and an ability to show off your hobby code to date; telling us what it means to you.

We work in a scrum agile framework with short sprints. Source control for us all centres around GIT and we run an automated docker containerised deploy environment. We seamlessly roll out at any time of night or day with zero downtime precision to our fault tolerant and load balanced platform.

We don’t go for “experienced in” lists but below is where we currently work, which should give you a feeling for where you could fit in. We hope you’ll be familiar with the basics, but very much welcome the innovation, ideas and change we hope you can bring to our business.

- Knowledge of Git & Github

- Writing clear and maintainable code

- Clear communication

- Knowledge of how APIs work and ideally having experience in creation & maintaining

Front End:

We use HTML/CSS together with their version 5 and 3 cousins for the basics. Responsive device design is important to us and we work with 5 separate break points right now, constantly debating between us on whether we need more or less.

Who doesn't use JavaScript and cool frameworks like ReactJS, Typescript & NextJS nowadays? We do, so hope you’ll bring some science to the role here. CSS Preprocessors like SASS have become a staple part of how we like to work.

We use Typescript for the front ends of our projects - Our desktop applications use regular React with our web pages moving to Next.js.

You should be strong at:

- Javascript, including knowledge of building with plain Js

- React

- Redux ( basic )

- Api knowledge - primarily in using Axios to make API calls

Nice to have:

- Typescript ( Not required as this is fairly simple to )

- Redux ( Advanced with RTK Query )

- Next Js

- Web socket knowledge

- Advanced React efficiency pattern knowledge

- Python & Go ( These languages have minimal use )

- Java ( Same as above, just nice to know for interfacing with the API)

Mobile Apps:

We have dedicated build for both Android and iOS in their native languages, both would be required, but if you know one and want to learn the other then that would be fine:

- Kotlin for Android

- Swift for IOS

Back End (Data Layer):

The bulk of the data processing is done using Java and familiarity of this is paramount. The main libraries we use are Spark API for route handling and Hibernate for relation management. Python 3 is also used for a lot of the work we do. There is also some minor use of Go & Rust. You would need to have good understanding of algorithms, sql and writing readable code.

You should be strong at:

- Java

- SQL

- Python 3

Nice to have:

- Knowledge of testing

- Java frameworks: Spark & Hibernate

- Python 3: Flask & SqlAlchemy

- Go, minor

- Rust, minor use cases. Including Axum framework

Back End (Server Side):

The back end is where video, calls and chat are routed between the users and their various applications. This requires a really strong understanding of ultra low latency and high throughput techniques. The bulk of the work here is done in Rust with Go being used for some services.

You should be strong at:

- Rust

- Working with databases

- Writing maintainable code

Nice to have

- Knowledge of the Rust Axum framework

- Go
