Junior Electronics Engineer

Location – Airdrie

Permanent, Excellent Salary plus Benefits Package

Hours of work – Monday – Friday – 37.5 hours per week

ESS Recruit is working in partnership with our client, established in 1985, that specialise in the design and manufacture of bespoke data acquisition, control, and measurement systems for use by industrial and military customers worldwide.


An opportunity has arisen in this Engineering organisation for an Electronics Engineer (PCB Design) in the Devices team. They are seeking a self-motivated and tenacious individual ideally educated to degree level (HND also considered) in Electronic Engineering or other related field or with work experience in an Electronic Engineering environment. You will work as part of a highly motivated development team working to meet quality, cost and schedule targets across a range of devices.


Role Profile:

  • Responsible for designing PCB layout, creating & maintaining ECAD components, documentation and test of electronic circuit and board designs
  • Design, develop and document electronic devices.
  • Generating schematic drawings, BOM, Gerber package, bare board documentation and assembly documentation for PCB manufacturing.
  • Supporting hardware unit test, as well as integration and systems testing.
  • Designing multilayer PCB layout while meeting specified requirements, established design rules (including electronic circuit knowledge) and meeting DFM standards using Cadence Allegro tools.
  • Provide estimates of effort, schedule, and size of change to the relevant PM
  • Regular progress reporting on schedule, quality & size of change
  • Support for existing devices through problem investigation and resolution
  • PCB Soldering and board debug skills.
  • Collaborating with mechanical engineers to define and verify requirements.
  • Collaborating with electronics design engineers to define, parts placement, trace routing and power distribution requirements.
  • Building ECAD (Electronic Computer Aided Design) symbols and footprints from component datasheets and maintaining those relevant databases.
  • Researching and defining component attributes including package requirements, RoHS classifications and other relevant component data.


Experience in PCBA/electronics development and knowledge of Analogue and Digital design methodologies would be great for this role, as would experience in PCB Design, Layout CAD tools, documentation, and development. You can expect great variety in this role and will likely work on several projects simultaneously. Not essential but experience or have a working knowledge in schematic and PCB design tools like Cadence Allegro, Mentor Graphics, Altium or Easy PC and with the development of MCU based USB Devices also useful as is Design for EMC compliance and being Qualified IPC CID.
