Are you a Junior Hydrogeologist, or a Graduate Geologist with experience in groundwater risk on major projects, passionate about using your skills ensure large and complex projects are delivered successfully, leaving a legacy for the future?

Do you want to work on high profile infrastructure projects across the rail, highways, renewables, emerging power generation, nuclear and utilities sectors?

With a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and offices across the UK, this very successful Infrastructure Consultancy offer bespoke services to clients. Their workload continues to expand and broaden, and there is an opportunity for several Hydrogeologists/Geologists to initially investigate and clarify potential issues during the design and build of HS2.

Summary:

You will be joining a small team of Hydrogeologists as part of a successful water services offering within this Global Engineering Consultancy, who are growing across several of their key sectors in the UK (transport, energy, nuclear, renewables, defence and emerging power generation technologies).

The initial role would be to support the Water Lead on HS2 to co-ordinate the development of water resource / groundwater projects on the delivery of HS2. The role will involve liaising with several internal and external parties including design management, environmental specialists, statutory authorities, and client personnel.

Duties:

  • Assist with site walkovers to identify groundwater monitoring infrastructure and understand how to collect basic data such as groundwater levels and sampling protocols. 
  • Undertake field visits to assist with investigations with an understanding of the field observations. 
  • Have a basic awareness of construction processes and tasks associated with development / infrastructure projects. 
  • Have a sound understanding of the basic properties of geological formations and the interaction of ground and surface water within a hydrogeological regime. 
  • Have an awareness / understanding of relevant environmental legislation. 
  • Be able to draft simple but technical reports. 
  • Should be starting to manage numerous activities / different projects simultaneously – short and long-term.

Desirable: 

  • Have a basic understanding of conceptual site models and contaminant interaction / implications on contaminant transport / migration through a hydrogeological regime. 
  • Appreciation of additional testing that can be undertaken to characterize geological properties.  
  • Experience of working in construction or on large infrastructure projects. 
  • Marketing skills / willing to contact potential clients. 
  • Tender preparation experience. 
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be registered / have membership with a relevant professional institution (e.g. CIWEM / EIS). 

QUALIFICATIONS

Relevant degree, BSc and/or MSc.
