Exciting Opportunity for a Junior Integration and Test Engineer – Steam Turbines
This is an exciting opportunity for a Junior Test Engineer – Steam Turbines to join a vibrant business undergoing significant growth and looking to further develop its engineering capabilities.
As a Junior Integration and Test engineer, you will report into the Lead Integration and Test Engineer and be responsible for supporting all test activities involving our steam turbine product lines. You will work on multiple projects, typically four per year. Test activities may include onsite Integration and factory acceptance testing, sub system testing at supplier sites, supporting customer testing activities at their facilities and site acceptance testing at customer facilities.
Whilst direct steam turbine test experience is highly desirable, this should not put you off applying if you are have some Integration and Test knowledge, as full training will be given.
This is a permanent position working 37.5 hours per week. We offer hybrid working for this role which will allow you to enjoy the balance of home working and collaboration time with the team in our modern, friendly offices which include free onsite parking.

What Needs To Be Done?
  • Understand customer requirements, standards, and legislation with respect to testing a steam turbine and work with Systems Engineering colleagues to help derive verification and validation methodologies to support sign off.
  • In conjunction with other engineering functions, assist in writing test plans that demonstrate compliance to requirements, standards and legislation.
  • Support integration test activities on each steam turbine and its ancillary equipment as part of an overall verification and validation strategy.
  • Under direction of the Lead Integration and Test Engineer, investigating and documenting root cause analysis investigations on test failures and identified test issues.
  • Safely operate the steam turbine under test and the steam plant feeding it.
  • Contribute to the successful completion of each steam turbines customer facing Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), demonstrating that the solution satisfies the overall approved operational needs set out by the customer.
  • Generate FAT test report.
  • Write up/gather evidence in support of the sell off of requirements, and liaise with other stakeholders (Quality, System Engineering etc) to ensure this evidence is correctly captured and fully meets the requirements.
  • Undertake identified career development opportunities to ensure their own training and qualifications related to the role are up to date and current. Suggest further opportunities for development as they arise.
  • Work with the facilities team to ensure that all test equipment and Test plant are available and in a sound working condition.
  • Work with production/project schedulers to ensure test slots are booked in an appropriate way.
  • Ensure health and safety duty of care is discharged for all individuals involved in the use of test equipment, and all spectators to tests taking place.
  • Identify any areas of process and facility improvements to streamline future testing activities and report them to the Lead Integration and Test Engineer.
To be successful you must have …
  • A basic understanding of System Engineering and System Engineering Processes and Practices, including knowledge of Systems Lifecycles.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team of Integration and Test Engineers to meet project and customer needs.
  • An ability to work with combinations of technologies, to integrate and verify them in a logical and structured way into a system, in order to fully satisfy a customer’s requirement.
  • The ability to solve complex integration problems using recognised problem solving and investigative techniques.
  • Self-starter with excellent organisation and planning skills.
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbally and written, with the ability to present and explain technical and complex problems, tailored appropriately for the audience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills enabling productive relationships with peers, superiors and others where formal reporting relationships do not exist.
It’s a bonus if you have (but not essential) ..
  • Experience in engineering of capital equipment in the oil and gas or power generation industry.
  • Hands on experience of working on rotating machinery.
  • Experience of machine condition monitoring including vibration and speed.
  • Working towards a Bachelor Degree (BEng, BSc) in a Numerate, Scientific or Engineering subject or Higher Education/equivalent training and experience.
