The Manufacturing Automation Engineer – Technology Engineering will work as a member of the Global Animal Health (AH) IT team for Animal Health Manufacturing sites in the UK, based in Milton Keynes. This position will support the modernization of core Shopfloor systems (Operational Technology) to provide better standardisation and resiliency in our AH Manufacturing Sites, to drive business strategies and analytics. This includes the digitisation and automation of solutions like Data Historians, Process Control and Automation systems, as well as Plant and Facilities Management solutions. This position will also support the operational integrity of the solutions, including systems life cycle methodology documents, Standard Operating Procedures, change management and Data Integrity.  

 
This position will work closely with various project implementation teams that include Global End User Services , Application Managed Services, Architecture and Infrastructure teams for overall solution implementation. The candidate must also be able to function independently and have excellent communication skills and be willing to learn and be hands on when it comes to owning issues and small projects end to end. The position will report to IT Automation Lead for AH UK Manufacturing Sites.

Role responsibilities:

Daily Operations:

  • Support existing legacy and modern automation systems (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Building Management and Environmental Management systems) to diagnose and resolve issues in timely manner.
  • Use ServiceNow and Jira to receive, update and resolve operational issues and requests.
  • Development and delivery of training packages to business users
  • Build exceptional relationships with stakeholders which are focused on meeting the business needs. 
  • Support the appropriate Configuration, Management and Operation of a set of Operational Technologies and Lab systems.
  • Adopt high quality change management practices with customers and stakeholders and implementing solutions that are sustainable.
  • Initiating and supporting Change Controls, investigations, and responding to Deviations and Corrective and Preventative actions.
  • Reading and following Standard Operating Procedures.

Projects:

  • Opportunity to manage and deliver your own projects with guidance from your manager and project teams.
  • Use business analysis skills for development and documentation of new business systems to meet business requirement specifications, project timescales and users’ expectations.
  • Involvement in design and implement strategic, aligned, and compliant solutions to support business initiatives that are aligned with our division’s strategy.
  • Respect diversity on project teams, different perspectives, ideas, knowledge while working towards a common goal. 
  • Develop domain expertise in key Supply Chain and Manufacturing and Quality Testing business processes, systems, and data.  
  • Applying standard Systems Development Lifecycle and other IT processes/methods, practices, and techniques to deliver process integration solutions. 

The candidate: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in IT Automation & Control, Computing, software engineering, computer science or related field  

Required: 

  • Eager to learn how to deliver IT automation and digital solutions.
  • Appetite to gain experience in Manufacturing IT Platform areas or other Divisional IT area. 
  • Eager to learn about Shopfloor systems like data historians and related tools and capabilities. 
  • Basic Project Management knowledge and experience. 
  • Knowledge of automated systems and technologies such as Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA).
  • Knowledge of network infrastructure
  • Business Analysis skills (requirements gathering and translating into IT solutions)
  • Eagerness and high energy to observe our Company’s Ways of Working, especially the culture of collaboration.  
  • A team player who places great emphasis on collective achievements and team diversity. 

Preferred: 

  • Quality Management Experience – Experience writing Change Controls, investigating, and responding to Deviations and Corrective and Preventative actions.
  • Audit Experience – Experience in responding to Audit data requests.
  • Problem and Data Management experience.
  • Ability to develop new opportunities & build/justify business cases for business process improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Ability to engage with software vendors and third-party solutions integrators. 
  • Experience with Systems Development Lifecycle Methodology (SDLC). 
  • Experience with implementing or supporting solutions in GxP/Pharmaceutical regulated environment.
