Job description

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has a unique opportunity to unleash the power of UK businesses, reform regulation to reduce burdens and unlock post-Brexit freedoms.

As a member of the DDaT function at DBT, you’ll work on unique and exciting challenges within diverse and supportive teams.

As a Junior Performance Analyst you will be part of a high performing and dynamic team. You will be responsible for communicating analysis and insight across DBT digital services. You will enable service and product owners to develop performance frameworks and ensure that business solutions are aligned with strategy, business goals and end user needs.

You will have the opportunity to get an in-depth understanding of DBT digital products that fall under the Export and Investment and the Trading Environment portfolios. These include products such as Great.gov.uk or Data workspace, an internal data management platform. You will build strong relationships with product teams and support them in making data-driven decisions.

You will understand the concept of the different phases of product delivery, and be able to plan and run the analysis for these. You will contribute to decision-making throughout the product life cycle, as well as work in collaboration with user researchers, developers and other roles throughout the product life cycle.

You will be able to identify and apply the most appropriate analytical techniques to bring different sources together to tell a story and involve teams in analytics to increase consensus and challenge assumptions.

You will understand and identify who the users are and what their needs are, based on evidence. You will adopt a user centric approach and manage competing priorities, collaborate with professions that are focused on user-centred design (for example, user research, user experience, content, design, business analysis).

You will have a knowledge of quality assurance techniques, as well as identifying the right data sources and then validate and understand how to interpret the results.

Your key tasks as a Junior Performance Analyst will involve:

  • Developing performance analysis projects, choosing the most appropriate methodology.
  • Using the available data on our services collected via Google Analytics and other means.
  • Working with product teams to understand the performance of digital services.
  • Communicating the outputs of performance analysis in a compelling and understandable way that is matched to the needs of the audience.
  • Development of dashboards and communication to key stakeholders, product owners and policy teams

You’ll use both structured and unstructured data held inside and outside the department which will include:

  • Google Analytics and other logging data collected on our websites.
  • Data on businesses that the department has a relationship with. This includes both external paid-for data plus information exclusive to DBT gathered by our network of international trade advisors.

This role is available in seven UK locations and can only be worked from within the UK, not overseas. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting. DBT employees work in a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in the office on average. Changes to these working arrangements are available in certain circumstances but must be agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role and can only be discussed with successful candidates. Travel to your primary office location will not be paid for by DBT, but costs for travel to an office which is not your main location will be covered.

Find out about life at DBT, our benefits and meet the team by watching our recruitment video, visiting our website or reading our blog!
