Junior Watersports Instructor (Senior General Assistant)


GLL is looking for Junior Watersports Instructor to work at Windermere Outdoor Adventure Centre. If you have the skills and ambition to join us as a Watersports Instructor, there's never been a more exciting time to join us. This is more than a Watersports Instructor job, it's a career.


At Windermere Outdoors we are looking for junior Watersports instructors to join us in a casual role for the 2024 season. The role is on a casual basis, starting in March until the end of October 2024 (with the prospect of more hours at busy times).

As a junior watersport instructor, your main role will be based with the hire centre, where we operate 7 days a week, handing out equipment and giving safety briefings. In addition to this, there will be the opportunity to develop your coaching skills throughout the season, working alongside other more experienced instructors and ultimately alone with small groups, in the remit of your current qualification. We will offer you a fun and exciting job, with a friendly team who are able to have as much fun on and off the water. What you’ll do:

  • To deliver Fun activity sessions to children and adults on Lake Windermere in the scope of your awards and training - usually working alongside other instructors.

  • To work as part of the boat hire team, offering a high level of customer service.

  • To work as a team to maintain a high standard of operation in accordance with operational procedures, Health and safety NGBs and AALA.

  • To develop and maintain good relations with Centre customers, offering advice and assistance to individuals and groups in the use of Centre facilities and activities.

  • Cleaning all areas including toilets and changing rooms daily, and cleaning the Lodge for customers.

  • As part of the team maintain equipment and facilities in safe and proper condition, carrying out and recording regular checks, effecting minor repairs where possible or arranging removal from use and notification of senior staff.

  • To attend regular staff training sessions and mentoring, As well as keeping you own personal CPD up to date.

  • Occasional work at Glebe Park, including maintenance and compliance of the centre.

  • Such other duties as may reasonably be requested. Staff flexibility is a feature of the Centre and in addition to the main duties and responsibilities outlined, the post holder will be expected to perform duties of a more general nature to achieve successful operation of the Centre.

What you need:

ESSENTIAL

  • Current First Aid Certificate

  • British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor or Level 1 Coach.

  • Evidence of current up to date CPD

  • A positive, friendly can-do attitude is essential. There will be many jobs that involve thinking out of the box!

DESIRABLE:

  • RYA Level 2 Powerboat Award

  • Some sailing experience (for example - can rig a Pico)

  • Experience running taster sessions for children is a huge advantage
