Job Title: Kennels Manager

Location: Daybreaks Kennels

Hours: 40 hours, to include weekend & Bank Holiday working on a rota basis, plus any additional hours as required to fulfil necessary duties. Holiday cover, event attendance & emergencies.

Salary & benefits: Starting salary £32K p.a Uniform top provided Holiday 28 days p.a SSP

Reports to: Daybreaks Trustees Responsible for: Assistant Managers, Receptionists, Home Checkers, and kennels volunteers.

Daybreaks Kennels is operated by Daybreaks Trust. We are committed to the rescue and rehoming of ex racing Greyhounds as family pets, the support of Trust Greyhounds in temporary foster homes and providing ongoing advice and support to owners post adoption to ensure the continuing welfare of the dogs.

Purpose of the job

To manage the kennels in line with the Trusts aims and objectives, to be responsible for the welfare of the Greyhounds in the kennels, to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures and to manage the activities of all employees and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

To be responsible for the standard of care given to the Greyhounds in the kennels, ensuring welfare and veterinary procedures are adhered to.

To liaise with the Greyhound Board of Great Britain, ARC and licensed Trainers to ensure the regular intake of Greyhounds from the waiting list.

To oversee and support the work of the Home Check Team and ensure all relevant Health & Safety procedures are adhered to.

To undertake booking of neutering operations at the nominated Veterinary surgery and arrange for the Greyhound to be delivered and collected as per Veterinary instructions.

To manage all employees and volunteers working at the kennels to ensure they fully understand the duties required of them, have adequate training and instruction and that all relevant policies and procedures are being complied with.

To meet potential adopters, show them around the kennels and offer comprehensive information, advice and guidance about the homing procedure and long term implications of dog ownership.

To undertake homings, reservations, foster placements and trial placements, ensuring all relevant paperwork has been satisfactorily completed and any fees due have been paid.

To actively promote the importance of donations, fundraising and other income both within the kennels and to the general public at offsite events/occasions.

To monitor and forward invoices for payment to the Treasurer, prepare cash for paying in at the Bank, prepare relevant reports, monitor service contracts and Data Retention schedules and respond to emails either in person or by delegating to a nominated person.

To maintain all aspects of health, safety and hygiene both of the kennel units themselves and the wider working environment in line with policies and statutory compliance

To liaise with local colleges as part of their work placement commitments.

Person Specification:

Essential:

Experience of working with Greyhounds, specifically with experience of behaviour, handling and assessment.

A good understanding of Greyhound welfare issues and the challenges faced in their transition into retired life.

Experience of working within the animal welfare sector, or a charitable organisation

Good time management skills to manage a high workload and multiple priorities whilst still meeting deadlines/requirements/commitments.

Flexibility to work varied hours to respond to business needs and commitments.

Hold a full, clean UK Driving Licence

Be eligible to work in the UK.

Desirable:

Good IT skills, to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook)

Experience of communicating clearly with the ability to adapt your style for different groups of people as appropriate. Experience of dealing with sensitive issues with empathy and resilience.

Experience of making and communicating difficult decisions using sound judgement and a diplomatic approach.
