KEYWORKER (Known internally as Independent Living Officer)

Do you like the challenge of a demanding but rewarding job? We have an exciting opportunity to join Huggard’s Support Team providing help and support to people experiencing chronic homelessness.
Responsibilities and Duties
Key Aim: To provide individual dedicated support to residents in Huggard’s
accommodation, focusing on:
- Providing a Safe, Welcoming and Supportive environment for people experiencing chronic Homelessness.
- Working with residents to establish aspirations and goals that are realistic and achievable.
- Helping individuals to identify and overcome the barriers that can cause a return to homelessness and may prevent them from moving into more sustainable accommodation.
- Supporting individuals to engage with existing housing, health and support services in line with identified need.
To create and maintain all administrative duties which are pertinent to the role, including Support plans, case notes, case studies and risk assessments.
Responsible to: Team Leader
Key Tasks:
- To provide Psychological and Trauma informed support to people experiencing chronic homelessness and compounded complex needs including Mental health and substance misuse issue.
- Empowering clients to overcome barriers, develop and maintain a problem solving mindset
- Delivering brief, extended and more structured interventions or sign posting to the appropriate people within our service or externally
- Build a trusting professional relationship with Huggard service users
- Keeping and maintaining appropriate key work files and support plans and risk assessments and move-on plans
- Liaising with Huggard development staff to assist in meeting key objectives and goals for clients
- Working with residents to assess and identify their support needs, agreeing support plans, recording outcomes and reviewing progress towards achieving their goals.
- Leading and taking part in appropriate activities with clients in line with achieving personal goals and developing Independent living skills, confidence and resilience to recover from homelessness
- Taking part in and contributing to case conferences, developing case studies, supervision and team meetings as required
- Providing an immediate appropriate response to any incidences in line with procedures
- To undertake other duties as reasonably required by management or to meet a service need
Person Specification:
- An ability and willingness to positively engage with Huggard clients
- A positive and proactive problem solving approach to working with Huggard clients
- Ability to demonstrate a non-judgemental approach to working with
Individuals
- To be able to demonstrate care and respect for Huggard clients and be able to maintain this as a priority throughout all aspects of the work
- Experience of helping individuals to assess and meet personal goals
- A knowledge of welfare rights and housing options for homeless people
- Experience in advocating on behalf of clients
- Have the ability and confidence to make decision within the authority of the role to
- An ability to communicate at all levels
- An ability to keep accurate records and write detailed reports as required
- A commitment to ongoing personal development
- An ability to travel to Huggard’s houses in the community
- Holding a driving license and having access to a car is desirable for roles in Supported Accommodation in the Community
- Ability to work as part of a team
About the role
Our service users are at the heart of everything we do. The Key worker roles will require providing holistic support to clients with housing or other multiple compounded needs, and work with service users to achieve defined goals and develop skills that maximize independence and enable sustainable resettlement in the community.
The support provided may be delivered on site in our Intensive Support project or Huggard’s Supported Accommodation in the Community
