The award-winning National Space Centre is a unique visitor attraction and education facility. We are looking to recruit talented individuals to join our team in providing the best customer service in the industry.
An experienced Kitchen Assistant is required to join our busy catering team to work within the kitchen and preparation area. Commitment and flexibility are essential.
Full-Time – 35 hours per week, 7 day rota including flexibility of times, evening and regular weekend work.
Please note that this role is permanent (subject to successful completion of probationary period) and not suitable for temporary or holiday only working.
Working with Children – A Disclosure is required for this role. Information about the Disclosure service can be found at the Directggov website.
Reporting to: Head Chef
Rate of pay is £11.90 per hour.

Overall Purpose:
The Kitchen Assistant facilitates the catering function at The National Space Centre.
General Duties:
- To carry out the washing of pots, pans and crockery as required by the busy catering facilities.
- To assist the team of Chefs in food preparation duties.
- Checking in and putting away deliveries adopting methods of stock rotation.
- The general cleaning of all kitchen areas in accordance with designated cleaning schedules to the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness at all times.
- The deep cleaning of kitchen equipment as required.
- Assist in the main kitchen tasks, including preparation of food, presentation and food service.
- Ensuring that all Health and safety regulations are adhered to, and that the health and safety of the visitor and all other employees is of paramount importance.
- Assist in front of house areas as required.
- Maintaining a high standard of personal presentation at all times by adhering to the uniform standard guidelines issued.
- Undertaking training and development as past of a Personal Development programme.
- Undertaking any other tasks relevant to the post as required by Line Manager.
Experience and Knowledge
- Experience of working in a professional catering environment is desirable
- Experience of working face-to-face with members of the public is desirable
- Experience of working within a customer-focussed retail and / or catering environment and/or using tills is desirable
- Experience of food hygiene standards is desirable.
