Main Duties:
To undertake duties as defined in the Conditions of Employment of Teachers, for the School Teacher’s Pay and Conditions Document
All teaching staff will:
- Set high standards of classroom organisation, management and practice.
The teacher is required to:
- Be responsible for the progress, educational care and development of a class of primary age pupils
- Teach all areas of the primary curriculum
- Plan, provide and evaluate a teaching programme, which complies with the Foundation Stage Curriculum, the National Curriculum and school policies
- Provide high quality learning experiences for children through the provision of challenging, stimulating and supportive teaching
- Provide a creative curriculum which supports the individual learning needs of all children
- Use a variety of teaching skills and approaches appropriate to the learning objective and children’s individual progress
- Establish and maintain an attractive, well-organised and stimulating learning environment in which children are secure, happy and able to achieve
- Encourage children to think for themselves and be as independent as possible in their learning
- Set high expectations for children’s behaviour, establishing and maintaining a high standard of discipline through well focused teaching and based on respect and care following the school’s behaviour policy
- Review and evaluate his/her own and the children’s learning regularly in order to monitor progress and improve effectiveness
- Undertake assessment and maintain records of children’s progress and achievements in accordance with the school’s record keeping and assessment policies
- Manage other adults working in the classroom, including teaching assistants and parents, to benefit children’s learning
- Foster respect and good relationships between all children and adults involved in the school community
The teacher is required to:
- Support the principles and practices outlined in the school policies and procedures
- Develop positive relationships with children throughout the school so that they feel secure, valued and gain self-confidence
- Develop positive relationships with colleagues and work as a co-operative, supportive team member
- Participate and co-operate in school organisation, staff meetings and curriculum development
- Support the development of positive relationships and links with parents, school governors, the School Association, playgroups, local schools and the immediate school environment
- Liaise where appropriate with other schools and agencies
- Be flexible and responsive to the needs of the school
- Be aware of and enhance the appearance of the school by the use of display and by ensuring resources are neatly stored
- Be vigilant to safeguard health and safety at all times
- Play a full part in the school life by supporting fund raising, social and extra curricular activities
- General
The teacher is required to:
- Inform the Headteacher of concerns relating to children and/or the school
- Coordinate activities and resources within a specific area/areas of the curriculum and support colleagues in the delivery of this subject/subjects
- Stay up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum
- Seek to improve teaching expertise and continue professional development by educational reading and discussion, attending courses and visiting other schools
- Ensure that resources are safeguarded and well maintained
- Ensure confidentiality in relation to any information gained in the course of working at the school
- Undertake any other reasonable activity or duty that the Headteacher may require
