This is a development role so to be eligible to apply, the training and development you receive must provide you with significant new skills and learning. This is an essential requirement for apprenticeship funding and means you must not already be fully qualified or significantly experienced in this type of work.

We are offering different apprenticeships depending on where the successful candidate is located. If you apply to work at our Bristol or Nottingham offices you will be enrolled on the Level 3 Data Technician apprenticeship. If you apply to be based at our Swansea office you will be enrolled onto the Level 3 IT User Skills apprenticeship.

Job description

The Central Reporting team is embedded within DVSA’s management accounts team. We maintain the accounting system (SAP) master data structure, co-ordinating the month end process and provide a reporting service to the business.

You will be a valuable member of the team supporting these activities!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining master data records for our finance system, including the chart of accounts and forecast versions.
  • Assisting the Finance Business Partners, transforming data into suitable structure for entry into the finance system to support the forecasting and budgeting processes.
  • Extracting data from the finance system and other sources to update Power BI reports frequently over month end to allow users up to data information to aid in decision making.
  • Supporting regular financial reporting to Department for Transport

Person specification

We are looking for someone who has a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel. You have a keen eye for detail and always strive to complete a task to the highest standard. Being a team player, you will be highly motivated with a flexible attitude and a keen willingness to learn.

You will have excellent communication skills, both oral and in writing, with the ability to adapt your delivery to suit a wide variety of audiences, maximising both impact and understanding. You are someone who gains rapport quickly with others as you build effective working relationships with both colleagues and stakeholders.

We are seeking an individual who can pick up new skills with ease, being able to organise your time effectively and balance your work and studies.

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must:

  • Be aged 16 or over
  • Have GCSE Maths A* to C or equivalent (essential)
  • Have GCSE English A* to C or equivalent. Please note: If not already held, you must be willing to work towards this once the apprenticeship starts)
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Not be in full-time education
  • Not be in receipt of funding for other learning programmes
  • Have valid and eligible residency status and be resident in the UK for 3 years before the start of your apprenticeship. Full eligibility details can be found Annex A. If you are not sure if you meet the residency requirements then please contact us before applying.

If you currently hold or are working towards a similar qualification of the same level or higher, i.e. Data Technician Level 3 (for applicants living in England) or IT User Skills Level 3 (for applicants living in Wales), then you will not be eligible to apply for this vacancy. In order to be eligible for our apprenticeship vacancy, any qualifications previously held or currently being worked towards must differ in content so that this apprenticeship provides substantial new skills.

Additional Information

This role can be based in Bristol, Nottingham or Swansea. Where your presence at one of these locations will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you. We operate a hybrid working model giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work. Our current expectation is that you will spend a minimum 40% of your time at your base location. Visits to other DVSA sites or work locations count towards the 40%. Please be aware there is a Civil Service wide expectation to increase office attendance to 60% and we are working on our implementation plan.

There will be occasional travel, including overnight stays with this role.

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement, for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 30 hours per week.

This post is offered on a Fixed Term Appointment (FTA) basis.

For permanent Civil Servants, this role is only available on loan, so you must have your home departments approval to return to them at the end of the loan before you apply. There is no opportunity for a permanent Civil Servant to take on this role as a fixed term appointment. OGD applicants will be appointed on an inward loan and subject to the terms of the agreed inward loan. Internal candidates will return to their previous post at the end of the loan period, which will need to be agreed with your line manager in advance.
