Role: Lab Support Technician/Data Centre Engineer

Type: Fixed Term Contract - 12 months

Work Location: Lab in Watford with some travel to Labs in Bracknell and Newbury occasionally

As a Lab Support Technician/Data Centre engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of laboratory facilities by providing support in various tasks such as patching, wiring, shifting, and lifting. Your responsibilities will encompass a range of activities aimed at maintaining a functional and safe laboratory environment.

Candidate having knowledge on IP networking, Routers and Switches is an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

Patching and Wiring:

• Install, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical and data connections within the laboratory.
• Ensure proper organization and labeling of cables for easy identification and accessibility.
• Collaborate with IT and facility management teams to address any connectivity issues promptly.

Shifting and Lifting:

• Assist in the relocation of laboratory equipment and furniture as needed.
• Safely transport and handle sensitive and delicate laboratory instruments.
• Adhere to proper lifting techniques to prevent injuries and ensure the integrity of equipment.

Lab Equipment Maintenance:

• Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment to ensure proper functionality.
• Collaborate with scientists and researchers to address any equipment-related issues promptly.
• Coordinate with vendors for specialized equipment repairs and maintenance.

Safety Compliance:

• Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while performing tasks in the laboratory.
• Conduct regular safety inspections to identify and address potential hazards.
• Provide support during emergency situations, such as evacuation procedures.

Inventory Management:

• Assist in managing and organizing laboratory supplies and equipment inventory.
• Keep track of consumables and order replacements as needed.
• Collaborate with procurement to ensure timely availability of required supplies.

Collaboration and Communication:

• Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, researchers, and other support personnel.
• Collaborate with different departments to coordinate activities and resolve issues efficiently.
• Participate in team meetings to discuss ongoing projects and address concerns.

Documentation:

• Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and inventory.
• Document procedures and guidelines for common tasks to facilitate knowledge sharing.
