FOCUS OF THIS ROLE
- Assist with the preparation and implementation of experiments with insects including mosquitoes and other insects in the laboratory. This will involve exposure to insect bites.
- Assist with insectary work including rearing mosquitoes and other insects as required.
- Source materials and equipment for experiments.
- General laboratory duties, including preparation of chemicals.
- Assist with the safe and accurate conduct of projects according to quality standards.
- Assist with other administrative and research activities as required.
We are interested in hearing from Lab Technician's who have the following skills and abilities:
- Good technical laboratory skills relevant to the role; to include experience of working with insects.
- Bachelors degree in a relevant field is essential, Masters would be preferred.
- Ability to carry out accurate scientific experiments.
- Ability to cope with the physical demands of the role e.g. moving equipment and supplies, manual handling tasks and a flexible approach to working.
- Experience in laboratory technical support work in a Higher Education / Research setting.
- Competence in laboratory safety, preferably within the Higher Education / Research sectors.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Good IT skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrable interest in science.
