Applications are invited for this full time post in SRUC’s Veterinary Services Group, based in the Molecular Biology Section of the Central Analytical Laboratory at the Pentlands Science Park, near Penicuik. The main duty is to test samples for bacterial and viral causative agents of animal disease, using molecular biology techniques.
Duties will include:
• Preparation of samples for testing
• Operation of liquid handling robots
• Nucleic acid extraction
• Conventional and real-time PCR
• Gel electrophoresis
• Analysis of test results and preparation of reports
• General lab duties (reagent preparation, stock control)
• Routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment
• Communication with internal and external clients
• Working to ISO17025 Quality Assurance standards
Candidates should be educated to SCQF Level 9 or above in a relevant discipline, and preferably have previous laboratory experience of both conventional and real-time PCR techniques. ISO17025 or ISO9001 experience would also be desirable.
