Overview and Responsibilities

Land-Based Outdoor Education Teacher – Aurora Boveridge

Location: Cranborne, Dorset

Salary:  QTS/QLTS - £30,000 - £44,870 per annum (M1-UPS2) / UQT - up to £32,134 per annum

Hours: 40 hours a week

The main purpose of the role:

As our Land-Based Outdoor Education Teacher, you will plan and deliver Outdoor Education, life skills and learning outside of the classroom, providing opportunities which supports the purposes and implementation of the Curriculum.

The role involves working collaboratively in the development of the Outdoor Education and Life Skills programme whilst also providing support for students, teachers and the College as a whole.

Key duties:

  • Delivering BTEC Land Based Level 1 with a view to possible future delivery of Level 2
  • Delivery of horticulture skills
  • Managing and developing the college’s organic vegetable garden
  • Promoting sustainability and a love of the environment and nature
  • Collaborating with staff across the college to help reduce the college’s carbon footprint
  • Developing and contributing to the College’s Outdoor Education and life skills programmes
  • Promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of students
  • Assisting in the provision of activities for the fullest development of the students which may involve work outside the College and in other learning environments located off site.
  • Applying considerable knowledge and understanding of the curriculum, age range, or SEN
  • Facilitating and instructing across a wide variety of student groups who have a range of complex needs
  • Leading assigned groups
  • Participating in meetings to review student progress and reporting to the meeting as required, on involvement with students.
  • Attending education department meetings
  • Completing weekly home link reports to parents and academic reports once a term
  • Willing to train and deliver Duke of Edinburgh Award
  • Supporting and embedding literacy and numeracy and key skills

Duties will vary, you must expect to diversify and lend a hand wherever is required.

Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidate qualities:

  • Experience of working with children or young people with an Autistic Spectrum Condition and SEMH
  • Experience or knowledge of delivering provision through the EHCP process
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team 
  • Forest School qualification and delivery of Forest School qualifications, experience of delivering Life Skills (Desirable)
