As a Land & Planning Manager, you will lead the ‘front end’ of the land purchase process and progress through planning. You will work as part of a high-performing team focused on Anchor’s strategic growth target of 500 homes per year. Your role will be crucial in helping us achieve our aspirations to provide more homes, be more efficient, and create more opportunities for colleagues.
Responsibilities will include:
- Securing new development sites and planning permissions, including bid preparation, building the business case, negotiating contracts, managing the design team, delivering planning consents, and presenting to secure internal and external buy-in and support.
- Instructing and directing legal and professional advisors to negotiate the best possible commercial deals for Anchor, within budget.
- Leading schemes through the gateway approval and handover process internally, including risk identification and management.
- Utilise appraisal, project management, and reporting software to support pipeline growth and maintain internal controls.
- Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all scheme information, making it accessible for transparent and compliant project delivery.
- Building relationships with external parties to promote our Development Strategy and generate new opportunities.
- Contributing to the internal and external communications strategy for Development to promote Anchor.
About You
To be successful in this role ideally you will have/be:
- Membership in RICS, RTPI, CIOB, or qualifications such as Prince 2 or APM preferred, or accredited qualification with a route to membership.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business purposes.
Experience and Skills:
- Minimum of five years’ experience in the development process, preferably with insight into affordable housing providers.
- Proven ability to meet challenging KPI targets and service standards in a commercial environment.
- Project management experience with successful delivery of residential projects through the planning process across various local planning authorities.
- Strong knowledge of development viability and financial appraisals.
- In-depth understanding of the planning system, including policy and law related to C2 and C3 planning use classes.
- Experience in managing and controlling budgets and reporting on cash flow.
- Proven ability to manage consultant performance across multiple professional teams.
- Strong skills in developing professional relationships with external and internal clients and stakeholders.
- Adaptability to change.
