Job description

The Land Use Planner will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Land Use planning matters within NWS and will directly support the development of this technical area within the organisation. Working alongside the Major Permissions team, the Land Use Planner will support and be responsible for planning and co-ordination of outputs from suppliers to support delivery of the consenting programme.
Responsibilities

  • Develop the Land Use planning function within NWS as a technical discipline.
  • Function as SME for the purposes of supporting the development and implementation of Land Use planning requirements within NWS.
  • Develop clear vision and standards and champion the use of best practice planning standards, tools and processes specific to Land Use planning.
  • Build and maintain internal and external networks to access technical and professional best practice.
  • Ensure that stakeholder responsibilities and needs are understood and addressed specific to the technical area of Land Use planning.
  • Identify future capacity and capability needs of the Major Permissions team and be responsible/accountable for the implementation of the Consenting Strategy to ensure successfully delivery of the consenting programme.
  • Provide specialist advice and support to ensure successful delivery and development of the Land Use planning function within NWS.
  • Identify and lead the introduction of best practice relating to Land Use planning and develop associated methodologies, tools, and templates, using industry standards.
  • Where appropriate, be accountable for directing the work of Project Planners / Project Support Officers to ensure that consistent, appropriate, and optimised Land Use planning methodologies are applied across the team.
  • Manage external suppliers to ensure that relevant Land Use planning outputs and deliverables are of the required quality in accordance with industry standards and best practice as an accountable Land Use planning intelligent customer.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
  • Experience (3 plus) of working and delivering on Land Use planning matters for projects in the UK
  • Experienced and comfortable with change with the ability to work with an organisation that is undergoing significant transformation and can demonstrate a proven ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Visible leadership - able to lead through engaging, motivating, coaching and empowering others.
  • Collaboration - able to establish and develop collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, bringing people together to benefit projects or programme.
  • Working with ambiguity - able to build consensus and set direction in uncertain situations and apply knowledge and techniques to reduce ambiguity.
  • Conflict resolution - able to recognise, anticipate and effectively deal with existing or potential conflicts or disconnects at individual, team or strategic levels.
  • Communication - demonstrably strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external to the organisation, and at all levels of seniority.

Desirable
  • Chartered or working towards chartership of a relevant professional body or having commensurate qualifications and experience.

  • Degree qualified in Town Planning.

  • Relevant experience of working with internal and external stakeholders to deliver project objectives.

  • Development Consent Order and or major infrastructure project experience.

  • Experience leading, motivating and managing multi-disciplinary teams, including internal and external resources, to drive integration, teamwork and problem solving while holding teams accountable for performance.

Nuclear Waste Services (NWS) is a joint trading name of LLW Repository Limited and Radioactive Waste Management Limited.
This role will be employed by LLW Repository Limited unless the successful candidate is currently on Radioactive Waste Management Limited terms and conditions. In this situation the employee will continue on their current terms and conditions.
