Job description

We have a great opportunity for a part time Landscape Architect to join the council’s Natural Environment Team. The role includes the ability to work from home and we operate a flexible working arrangement. We are seeking an experienced Landscape Architect who is Chartered or working towards Chartership and is looking to further their career in local government.

Your focus will be split between landscape planning and project delivery. One part of the job involves designing and implementing hard and soft landscape improvements to a range of our sites including parks, open spaces, residential areas and town centre locations, delivering attractive, well considered schemes that have a positive impact on people’s quality of life. Managing all aspects of projects from concept to completion, you’ll get involved with community consultations, concept proposals, detailed designs, tenders and contract administration of works on site.

In addition, you will be providing expert landscape advice to colleagues in the Development Management and Planning Policy Teams in order to help shape current planning applications and future development within the borough.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside ecologists, tree officers and parks officers, there will be the opportunity to work closely with these and other officers across the council. This will give you the chance to share ideas, broaden your knowledge and become our expert in this area, bringing the latest thinking on current trends and best practice in landscape architecture.

You will be joining a bold and innovative organisation that has big ambitions for the borough and for our staff. We do things differently here. We go beyond expectations to nurture and develop our communities and our colleagues as we shape an exciting future for Basingstoke and Deane.

You will have good communication and project management skills and whilst experience of community consultations would be ideal, what really matters is that you are genuinely enthusiastic about shaping the spaces that people love using.

In return, we’ll provide all the support you need to develop your career with us. There will also be the possibility of mentoring.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council offer a wide range of benefits, including a generous leave entitlement, access to discounts at nationwide retailers through our ‘B Rewarded’ discount site, flexible working, healthcare cash plan, pension scheme and much more.

The council signs up to the Disability Confident scheme (formerly known as the ‘Two Ticks’ scheme). If you have declared a disability on the application form we can guarantee you an interview if you meet the essential criteria for the job.
