Job description

(Please note that although this role offers fully remote you must be based in the United Kingdom to apply)

I am currently seeking a talented skilled and passionate individual to fulfil the role of a Lead DevOps Engineer. This role is with a fantastic client of mine that is doing incredibly well in their specialist industry sector and therefore needs to grow their Dev-Ops team. You will get the opportunity to take ownership of the production, QA, and development environments. As the DevOps Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation, monitoring, maintenance, and support of these environments. You will play a pivotal role in driving transition to cloud-native technologies, enhancing our overall site reliability, and maintaining high operational SLAs and SLOs.

This role operates on a pretty much fully remote basis with just one day a month required in the Birmingham office.

Key functions of the role:

  • Manage and optimize the production, QA, and development environments to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of our software products.
  • Design and implement robust monitoring systems that proactively identify and address performance bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, and system failures. This includes setting up monitoring tools, establishing alerting mechanisms, and conducting regular system health checks.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including software developers, system administrators, and QA engineers, to streamline deployment processes and improve operational efficiency. This involves implementing efficient CI/CD pipelines, automating build and deployment processes, and establishing effective release management practices.
  • Lead the adoption and integration of cloud-native technologies, with a particular focus on the Azure Cloud Platform. This includes evaluating, implementing, and managing cloud services and infrastructure to enhance the scalability, reliability, and security of our software solutions.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, and Azure DevOps. These pipelines will enable us to achieve rapid and reliable software releases, ensuring a smooth and efficient deployment process.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges related to large databases, performance tuning, and web application support in IIS. You will utilize your strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to identify and address any issues that may impact the smooth operation of our software products.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in DevOps. You will actively research and explore new tools, technologies, and methodologies such as Containers, Kubernetes, SRE etc to drive innovation and continuous improvement within our organization.
  • As a DevOps Lead, you will also have the opportunity to lead and mentor a team of DevOps engineers. You will provide guidance, support, and foster a collaborative and high-performance culture to ensure the successful execution of DevOps initiatives.

Experience required:

  • Experience in a DevOps or similar role, preferably in a software development or SaaS environment.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL Server, Windows Services, and PowerShell.
  • Solid knowledge of Azure VMs, Azure DevOps, and cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with web application support in IIS and SQL Server administration.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a focus on driving solutions in a timely manner.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with the capability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to inspire and mentor a team towards achieving goals.
  • Relevant certifications such as Azure certifications, DevOps certifications, or industry-specific certifications are advantageous.

This role is a key role for the business so hiring managers are committed to the interview process meaning your application will see a quick turnaround so apply ASAP should you be interested!
