Job Description
JOB TITLE:Lead Content Designer
SALARY: £85,000 - £100,000
LOCATION:London
HOURS:Full-Time
WORKING PATTERN:Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, in the office.
About this opportunity
We’re looking for someone who is confident in designing and developing all types of content - from UX/UI to long-form storytelling, notifications to chat (especially in relation to conversational banking and complex help & support situations) - and in applying evidence to influence stakeholders.
You’ll love your craft, lead the content strategy for a commercial department and enjoy opportunities to develop the creativity of others throughout the business. Whether that’s championing Content Design with product teams, shaping new guidelines, leading crit sessions with other Content Designers, or facilitating workshops to inspire more collaborative and effective ways of working.
There will be a managerial aspect to this role, matrix managing a squad of designers (interaction, service, visual, research), between 2-5, contract and perm in a commercial area of the business. You will be leading by example, getting involved in the day-to-day work of the area, understanding what work is coming in and delegating effectively.
It’ll be your role to:
  • Craft engaging, accessible and memorable copy to support outstanding digital customer experiences.
  • Line manages a design squad in a commercial area.
  • Shape and define overarching Content Design guidelines and workflows.
  • Lead on copy, brand personality and tone.
  • Take ownership of and advocate for Content Design in an agile environment.
  • Establish common standards for Content Design methodology, metrics, and guidance for our active community of writers and designers.
  • Encourage and empower the practice of Content Designers across the Group.
  • Position Content Design as a fundamental partner in shaping the overall design approach.
  • Demonstrate a forensic understanding of customer needs; pouring this insight into irresistible digital experiences.
  • Tell stories that bring to life the exceptional ways content helps people to grow their finances.

What you'll need
  • Experience of embedding Content Design as an integral part of the product development process.
  • Examples of developing and maintaining business-wide content standards, style guides, voice and tone, and additional subject matter expertise.
  • A proven history of evolving new practices, through contribution or leadership.
  • Hands-on evidence of coaching others - line management responsibilities essential.
  • A varied portfolio highlighting how you use your specialism to generate customer-centred outcomes and influence the business.
  • Experience developing, contributing to, and working with design systems.
  • Experience working with innovative design tools, such as Figma.
  • The confidence to work across a complex business landscape - ideally, financial services.
  • A collaborative mindset looking to guide a busy multi-disciplinary team.
  • The personality to influence and manage stakeholders across product, risk, legal and branding teams.
