Lead Design Engineer
Full-time - Permanent
Poole, UK
37 hours per week

£50,000 - £60,000

We are seeking a Lead Design Engineer to support our Product Development strategy, delivering profitable organic growth and continuous improvement. This role is a key part of our Engineering Department and requires effective collaboration with the Projects, Production, Quality Engineering teams, and Manufacturing Department.

Day to Day of the role:
Design market-leading products applying sound engineering practice aligned with business objectives.
Engage with customers during the quotation and pre-production phases to understand needs and provide leading technology.
Innovate in product design to optimize performance characteristics and functionality for competitive advantage.
Interpret engineering standards, legislation, certification, and compliance requirements.
Conduct design validation using reports, stress calculations, FEA, CFD, and other methodologies.
Lead design validation and qualification testing, including planning R&D efforts.
Drive concurrent engineering with an appreciation for manufacturing methodology, process capability, and inspection processes.
Coordinate project teams to efficiently manage pre-production project workload.
Mentor and verify the work of junior Design Engineers.
Apply Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) to product design to minimize manufacturing costs.
Provide technical support and product training to customers and sales engineers.
Compile Operating and Maintenance Manuals for new products, assisting marketing and sales as needed.
Maintain Lean principles within the engineering environment and adhere to the company’s Safety, Health, Environmental, and Fire Safety Management System.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification/experience.
Expertise in valve design technologies and fluid power applications.
Profound knowledge of modern manufacturing, inspection, and assembly techniques.
Proficient in engineering software, including 2D and 3D CAD, FEA, CFD, Mathcad, and MS Office, preferably Autodesk platforms.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Self-management skills with the ability to effectively plan and deliver on time.
Willingness to travel nationally and internationally for training and technical support.
