Lead Devops Engineer

We are seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer to join our mission-driven team, dedicated to improving financial wellbeing for those in need. In this new role, you will establish and guide our DevOps practices, using Azure Cloud Platform and Azure DevOps for Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), and building infrastructure for modern frameworks like Next.js and React. Your leadership will be instrumental in blending technical excellence with our social purpose, creating solutions that genuinely make a difference. The role

The Lead DevOps Engineer will report directly to the Software Engineering Manager. In this role you will be responsible for the following;

• Leading the design and development of our deployment pipelines and automation solutions using Azure and open-source tooling.
• Continuously analyse our DevOps processes and identify opportunities to further automate and refine our deployment practices.
• Design, build and maintain environments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Engage collaboratively in an agile environment, working closely with solution architects, technical leads and developers.
• Implementation of services that meet Government Digital Service (GDS) standards.
• Contribute to low level design and maintain documentation.
• Peer reviewing IaC developed as part of our workflow.
• Able to self manage including keeping technical knowledge up to date.
• Promoting collaborative working, efficiencies and knowledge transfer.
• Actively participating within the wider community of practice; advocating DevOps best practices and sharing knowledge/experience.
• Mentoring and providing guidance to DevOps and Software Developers.
• Leading/facilitating technical discussions and engaging with external delivery partners as appropriate.

Key accountabilities

You will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential:

• Build and optimisation of pipelines (ideally in Azure DevOps).
• Provisioning and managing infrastructure through IaC (e.g. ARM templates, Bicep, terraform).
• Highly experienced, working with a range of Azure Cloud Services.
• Commitment to high quality, robust engineering practices.
• Working within an agile development team with experience of productive collaboration with design, testing, product and other digital delivery colleagues.

Desirable:

• A development background, with experience in a language such as Python, Java, C# or PowerShell.
• Experience with JavaScript and building/deploying/scaling React-based applications in the cloud (e.g. Docker / Kubernetes).
• Experience working within a monorepo environment and tooling such as Nrwl NX or turborepo.
• Experience with bash scripting.
• Experience with git version control.
• Experience in a senior/lead role.
