OVERVIEW

The Lead Dust Hazard Specialist Engineer provides technical support and management of all aspects relating to ATEX /DSEAR and Dust Explosion Hazards, including types of equipment, zoned areas, drawings and documentation, maintenance inspections, and project installations at Tate & Lyle Sugars Thames Refinery and also to offer support to the Plaistow Wharf plant.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and support a robust Dust Hazard Management system in line with legislative requirements and with ISO45001.
  • In addition to Dust Hazard Management develop and support a Flammable liquids and Gases management system.
  • Maintain an essential knowledge of UK and European health and safety compliance regulations in conjunction with the site H&S manager, particularly relating to Explosion Hazard mitigation.
  • Conduct inspection audits at an appropriate frequency and work with Area Managers, Department Heads, the Maintenance Team, and contractors to complete action plans as needed.
  • Manage, monitor, and audit maintenance of the Explosion detection and suppression systems.
  • Own and steward any action plans needed around Explosion risk mitigation to ensure that the plants comply with safety legislation and that we protect our assets.
  • Develop and manage Capital Projects to improve explosion Detection and Suppression systems according to priorities set in consultation with the Plant Manager, Safety Manager and Corporate Engineering team.
  • In partnership with Heads of Department and the Safety Manager work to ensure all employees are trained and aware of key ATEX safety requirements.
  • Liaise with our Insurers or Insurance Consultants in conducting risk surveys, identifying, and quantifying site vulnerability and analysing loss prevention reports to minimize risks identified.
  • Develop and manage Capital projects to improve Explosion Safety systems on site. Provide guidance and specifications for major development projects carried out by the Corporate Projects team.

WORK EXPERIENCES

  • Extensive experience in maintaining and improving Explosion Safety systems, including capital project management.
  • Good working knowledge of BSEN 60079 requirements
  • Specific safety qualifications e.g. Nebosh Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health , and CompEx 14
  • Qualification and experience in managing dust explosion risks with both suppression and engineering solutions.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Engineering Graduate level education preferred
