Lead Environmental Engineer
Location: Cheadle (SK3 0XB) or Templecombe (BA8 0DH) – Hybrid
Thales Underwater Systems (UWS) cover a broad portfolio of engineering challenges, working at the forefront of the technological development in the naval domain including development of autonomous systems, remotely operated unmanned vehicles and advanced submarines capability programmes.
We are currently recruiting for a Lead Environmental Engineer to lead delivery elements of eco-design / Environmental Engineering tasks for our major projects and provide expertise to the business as we enhance our corporate policies and move towards our carbon net-zero goals. This role has a progression path towards being the authority/subject matter expert on Environmental/Eco-Design within our Underwater Systems team.
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of Environmental Engineering activities for UWS projects, ensuring the delivery of all environmental artefacts and requirements in a timely manner;
- Act as the main Point of Contact for Environment / Eco-Design Expertise to your projects, supporting the Project Design Authority and other engineering functions in the delivery of their activities;
- Liaise with the customer representative for all Eco-Design related activities;
- Ensure that the environmental management approach for all our projects is in accordance with Thales processes, in addition to customer requirements, including but limited to Def Stan 00-051;
- Engage with our Product Leads, to ensure Eco-Design is incorporated into their development roadmaps;
- Provide Environmental leadership within the UWS business, to support development of our corporate policies within Thales UK, and ensure we meet our developing Eco-Design responsibilities.
Experience and Skill Required
- In depth knowledge of Environmental Management Processes, and experienced in the implementation and delivery of Environmental Engineering activities;
- Knowledge and experience of formal environmental analysis techniques and methods;
- Knowledgeable with respect to product environmental and materials related Legislation, Regulation and Standards;
- Experience within the Defence Domain and working with associated Defence Standards is desirable, or knowledge of equivalent environmental management processes from similar domains;
- Knowledge of engineering lifecycle management, its requirements and application;
- Broad experience in project management related skills – such as estimating, scheduling, monitoring, budgeting;
- Good people management skills, including experience engaging with and managing customer expectations, and working in a multi-disciplined engineering environment.
