We launched our hit music game, Beatstar, in 2021 and we’re following its success with Countrystar less than two years later. We also officially launched our first Puzzle Game in 2023, Chrome Valley Customs, and we’re focusing on scaling this game to further global success. On top of all this, we’re running several mature live games and working on some exciting new projects behind the scenes!
Speaking of exciting projects, Space Ape is also working on a brand-new game! You'll be jumping into a small, dynamic team that is still trying to figure out its brand, audience and visual direction. We are looking for an experienced Senior Match 3 Artist to own the visual presentation of the puzzle experience while playing an active part in the wider team and their mission to create an experience and content that engages players for years to come.
Working alongside the Match 3 game designers you will craft new blocker artwork that looks amazing and is immediately understandable. You will use your previous experience creating Puzzle Game artwork to help guide the design of blockers and other board tokens, and will use your 3D modelling and rendering skills to realise these designs. Every part of the puzzle experience will be in your hands as you take the asset to completion, integrating animations and VFX to add the finishing flourishes to your explosive creations.
Responsibilities
- Own the visual presentation & Pipeline of the Match 3Puzzle Game, pushing the quality while adhering to the style set out by the Art Lead
- Take Match 3 art assets from concept to final render and integrate them into the Unity game engine
- Be the artistic voice of the Match 3 team, working with game designers to develop recognisable and fun metaphors that best explain the game mechanics
- Drive visual improvements to the Puzzle Game, using the skills you have where applicable or leading shared art resources to achieve your vision when required
- Work with developers and technical artists to reach new levels of explosive visual quality
Requirements
- Experience as a professional Artist working on Mobile Games within the puzzle genre, ideally Match 3
- You love the puzzle genre, specifically Match 3. The craft and detail that goes into each blocker is what makes the player’s experience special, and connects them to the rest of the meta game
- You have great graphic design skills, and can stylise and simplify where needed to make blocker icons readable and recognisable
- You are a proficient 3D modeller (ideally with a knowledge of Blender) with a good grasp of colour and lighting, and how they can be used to create strong graphic imagery
- You love the fine details, and are happiest when you can polish an asset to perfection. You will relish having near complete ownership of an assets design, and will want to add bells and whistles to make it shine
- You enjoy working collaboratively and take feedback well. You believe that by working together the final result is always better
