Job description

A Vacancy at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a pivotal role in our team which leads the delivery of the MUS Medication Safety work plan. Working with key national stakeholders, the Medication Safety Officer Network Lead and across SPS, the successful candidate will develop Medication Safety resources for publication on our website; plan, develop and deliver a range of online network events; and provide expert opinion on Medication Safety.
• Leads the delivery of the MUS Medication Safety work plan.
• Develops and co-ordinates publication of Medication Safety resources and support tools for use within SPS (all functions) and externally on the SPS website.
• Plans, develops and delivers national networking safety events.
• Provides Medication Safety subject matter expertise to the wider SPS team (all functions) and other stakeholders.
• Develops and sustains Medication Safety expertise across the SPS functions
• Communicates key Medication Safety messages to the wider SPS team (all
functions), MSOs and other stakeholders.
• Leads the design and supports the implementation at national and regional level of Medication Safety improvement projects, authoring and developing policies as necessary, using intelligence gained via the Medicine Advice service, national Medication safety Officers (MSO) network and incident reporting.
• Delivers agreed priorities, working in collaboration when appropriate with other functions of the SPS team (all functions), to promote medicines
optimisation and medicines safety in all care sectors.
• Liaises with NHS England, MHRA, DHSC on matters pertaining to Medication Safety.

The NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) supports the NHS to develop best practice systems of work related to buying, making and using medicines. The service provides leadership, instructive and informative specialist input and operational support to the sourcing, supply and use of medicines across the system. Our strengths are borne out of connecting national expertise with policy teams and arm’s length bodies to ensure consistency and high standards. The service supports both regional and local connections to ensure that the service’s outputs resonate with and support local NHS organisations which deliver care to patients. The key successes of SPS are through the development and delivery of our “Do Once and Share” methodology.

We are a well-respected team interpreting legislation and guidance for NHS organisations and practitioners in England; promoting safe patient care across the entire medicines pathway. Closely connected with front line colleagues we work with policy makers, regulators and strategic leaders, responding with agility and flexibility to share local expertise within our extensive clinical networks.
We are looking for an experienced pharmacist with excellent subject matter expertise who understands the Medication Safety agenda in England. Your passion to improve safety will be underpinned by your outstanding clinical experience. You will be confident in presenting your subject matter expertise, answering written and oral queries, and advising others of the options they might need to consider. You will apply your experience and knowledge to develop and maintain online content. Your networking skills will allow you to build strong working relationships with relevant stakeholders working with them to improve Medication Safety.
